compromise. allow these guys to come back this year IF all schools moving forward will accept the defintion of a pro player which includes entering the draft and pro camp. in other words, they will not get two bites at the apple. everyone agrees to this definition, accepts the penalty structure to be set up if violated by written agreement, and move on.
After hearing the court proceedings and the problems with defining what a pro athlete is, the SEC is going to get us in ongoing litigation for a long time if they don't figure out this solution.

Until like with Missouri and LSU where the judge says the schools have to roster the players and lawyers start threatening the schools with being held in contempt.

They way I see it, they had two options. These guys are allowed to come back, or none of them allowed to come back.
The imaginary line they drew at mini camps is absurd. I would much rather they said “sorry 2022 class, but welcome to life.”

I think college athletics should treat the NFL draft like the baseball and basketball drafts. If you don't get drafted or sign a guaranteed contract with a signing bonus, you should have the ability to go back to school and finish your eligibility. Baseball players use it for leverage in contract negotiations, undrafted basketball players are allowed back in school. Football should be the same way.

There's not going to be a compromise...the SEC will do what they can until they can run their own conference again.

I wouldn't risk throwing away top tier conference membership where your university makes millions of dollars

It is this way. This is the situation now. Literally the only difference is they don’t specify a guaranteed contract or signing bonus, any signed NFL contract is their definition.
The SEC is not opposing the 5th year guys who went undrafted and didn’t sign a contract from returning. That is the case for the Texas and South Carolina players. Undrafted. Did not sign an NFL contract. Were granted another year of eligibility. Came back to play.
The SEC is opposing players who signed an NFL contract and were on an NFL roster from returning to college.
What you outlined is what the system is now. They aren’t trying to prevent players from returning for a 5th year. They are trying to prevent guys like this from returning. Pic is of Wright during an NFL preseason game a few weeks back.

Only way out of this into make the Baton Rouge judge the commissioner of the SEC.

It's a little difficult with the class of 22 because none of them had the option of withdrawing from the draft and returning for a 5th year until after the draft. Moving forward, the line should probably be drawn at entering the draft. This provides a clear line and allows schools to get a handle on their rosters in advance of the season. If you've finished your 4th year you can either enter the draft or withdraw. Once you enter the draft, if you are not drafted you are SOL.

This is why the presidents are so up in arms. The only way a player can be on a roster is for them to be enrolled in the school. So not only is the judge controlling who is on a roster, he is mandating the school has to accept and enroll him. They are up in arms because an East Baton Rouge judge just ruled he has the power to control who SEC schools admit to their universities.
The presidents and chancellors do not want a local judge being able to usurp a university. If a local judge can mandate that a school accept and enroll a student because of extenuating circumstances like football, there is nothing that would stop a stupid or corrupt judge from ruling a student with a 2.0 GPA and a 14 on the ACT must be allowed to enroll at a school.

If there are any rational actors at LSU (which I somewhat doubt) they'll look for a face saving off ramp. Since they keep trying to equate Chambliss' documented medical exception to their trying to roster players who signed NFL contracts, they'll offer to drop the whole thing if Ole Miss agrees to disqualify Chambliss. Kiffin is still bitter that neither Chambliss nor Lacy followed him and that he wasn't granted his absurd demand that he be allowed to coach the playoffs, and for the sake of his massive ego, OM cannot be allowed to have any success without him on the sideline (especially on September 19th.) Lastly, in spite of his number one transfer class and $45+ million roster he's nervous about the season and thinks they're in trouble.

Every player before that didn’t have the 5 for 5 option.
