Every player before that didn’t have the 5 for 5 option.

There are different rules now.

And having a Time Machine would be available to anyone.

That's fine. Then don't allow anyone from the 2022 class a 5th year. The problem is not that a line has been drawn. The problem is that it was drawn arbitrarily with no good reason for why it is drawn there. Sankey couldn't even explain exactly where the line was drawn on the stand under oath yesterday.

roster the 2 players but don't play them until/unless they are allowed after the fed court decision

paying the players for contempt is cheaper than losing revenue/paying penalties to the sec

I just said it. 2022 class, you’re shite out of luck, yall get 4 years. Life isn’t fair, update your resumes

I agree with you. But our opinion is very unpopular here: Sometimes life sucks. I bet the ghost of the last guy executed in Virginia is pissed they abolished the death penalty in the state just a year or two after they killed him. And there are still a lot of people in jail for weed who would not be based on today’s laws in many states. Laws and rules change. That is life.

If they rule the players from the 22 class all get an extra year, there is nothing stopping a player from the 2013 class from suing because he didn’t get a fifth year. At this time they are not allowing it under a blanket policy, but they also aren’t fighting them if a judge rules in their favor.

They are opposing guys who signed NFL contracts, went through training camp, and appeared on NFL rosters from getting an extra year and returning.

In February of this year a court ruled that signing a professional contract makes a player ineligible to return to play in college. If Wright and Harris really had wanted to return to college they would not have gone through NFL training camp. Instead they wanted to play in the NFL. When that didn’t work out LSU was their plan B.

Those players knew about the June 5 for 5 ruling before they showed up for training camp.

If any other school in the SEC were planning to play this guy LSU fans would be in the streets with pitchforks.

Sankey did not drawn the line in 5 for 5. Neither did he pass an SEC rule prohibiting former NFL players from returning to play in the SEC. The members of the SEC did, one vote per school. It passed 16-0. Unanimous. LSU voted for it. Are you pissed that LSU voted to prohibit Wright and Harris from playing in the NFL?

Well you would risk punishment from that darn BR judge who demands those guys will play for LSU!

Agreed, but he's the commissioner of one of the top conferences in the NCAA. He ought to be able to articulate where that line is drawn.

Agreed. Again, though, the commissioner of the conference ought to be able to articulate the rules that he himself is now so interested in enforcing.

I don't know that LSU had much of a choice. I also don't know that the schools came up with this arbitrary line on their own. I suspect Sankey suggested that this is where the line should be drawn the schools voted on it. I don't think it would have made a lick of a difference if LSU voted for, against, or abstained. It was going to pass regardless. I also don't think that it's merely coincidence that the line was drawn in such a way to exclude only the two guys LSU was after.

i think if we're all being honest, most of us would fall on the same side of the argument. remove my LSU logo, your bama logo etc. i'm 54 years old and grew up in era of not paying players. things have changed, with little rules or regulations, and even less enforcement by the organization who governs it all.

what i think most of y'all are missing is, why is 1 TRO adhered to by the SEC office, and another is being fought tooth and nail? chambliss is playing in his 6th year of college athletics, yet we are up in arms about a couple of guys who are looking for now their legal 5th year. yes, the NCAA's timing is the biggest hurdle in all of this, but again regarding chambliss, the NCAA said not eligible. twice. a TRO is filed, he's all good. other players (not current LSU players at the time, and not LSU) filed for their TRO when they were forced out of college after 4 years, but the SEC draws a line in the sand over a guy getting $190 in camp that he didn't even participate in because he was injured? i know to me, none of that makes sense.

provide a blanket ruling for 2022 saying all are a go, or all are a no go....or.......adhere to all TRO's, or adhere to none. consistency is all most of us are asking for. the "NFL players" and "contracts signed to varying levels of rookie camps" is all just conjecture when factually, recently players were given 5th and 6th years. zero consistency. the SEC has been extremely reactionary, and sankey is looking foolish.

That’s what the second part of the statement was alluding to. It is cheaper to settle a lawsuit for not playing the players than it would be for fighting and losing to the SEC

They way I see it, they had two options. These guys are allowed to come back, or none of them allowed to come back. The imaginary line they drew at mini camps is absurd. I would much rather they said “sorry 2022 class, but welcome to life.”

Agreed. This is exactly where they went wrong.

So follow rules that are made up AFTER the other rules, because Stankey doesn't like those rules??
