all the old teams should secede

This is the likely eventuality I think. The SIAA got too big and split, then the Southern Conference got too big and split, the SEC will eventually get too big and split.

If there is a 16 team conference, it will make the divisions feel like two different conferences over time. I really hate that, and my team is only 20 years in.

The whole thing is screwy, and the Big 10 looks like whores.

Duke is like adding another Vandy with an elite basketball program

Their football teams (sans Spurrier) are pretty much unrelentingly terrible - but the SEC should look at them for the same reason the Big 10 should consider Kansas

At a certain point I would think there would be no financial reward also. Every team added is another split of the pot. A University may bring in more money but would it cover their split? I'm sure Slive and company have this worked out but at a certain point the conference will simply be too big. 16 teams? For football that's 7 division games, leaving only 5. If a larger playoff comes the regular season needs to be cut and that leaves only 4 games. I'm not sure how one works all that out.

Can we kick out Mizzou and take them? The conference is starting to become too strong unless there were an 8 team playoff implemented soon. SEC is going to be absolute murderers row in about 15 years when Mizzou and A&M get their facilities on par with the rest of the SEC and begin to pull in top ten classes.

if adding Duke helps with the future SEC Network, then they are a great add...a football cupcake that doesn't threaten the elite powers....but a basketball powerhouse.

Why can't Duke or Vandy be as good as Stanford? They must be thinking it is possible...

Why do so many people struggle to see the advantages of 16 team conferences with four divisions over 14 team conferences with two divisions?

1. It's already murderer's row.
2. Who cares? We'll be rolling in money and everyone will know how superior our conference is to any other (as is essentially already the case).

Might as well add Baylor. Adding Okie Lite would be like adding West Virginia. No added value.

Oklahoma has 3.79 million people while West Virginia has 1.85 million.

They also have more people than Mississippi at 2.97 million and Arkansas at 2.93 million.

The obvious prizes are getting at least two schools from North Carolina, 9.6 million, and Virginia, 8.09 million. I bet the SEC would be willing to take UNC, Duke, NCState, VPI, and UVA in a package deal. Va Tech and NC State seem to be the only two that are a realistic get though.

Schools like Pitt and Cincy will also be worth looking at due to the size of their states (PA 12.7, Ohio 11.5) and a possible desire to cut into Big 10 markets if they eventually go after schools like Georgia Tech. IMO they seem more likely to end up in the Big 12 if the ACC implodes but you never know.

I say lets take UNC & Vargina Tech...blow the roof off the almost cupcake conference and leave Clemson, Ga Tech and Free Shoes Univ (aka girls school) all alone and crying that they werent invited to the prom. They will be left traveling all the way to the exotic sights and sounds of Waco, Lubbock & Stillwater

UNC is the ACC. The only way they go anywhere is if the ACC completely disbands.

Duke isn't going anywhere without UNC and vice versa.

The whole point of expansion is more money.....the whole point of more money is better facilities/resources for your program....which in the end is all a means to win football games. That's the true bottom line.

At what point does expansion start hurting your effort to win football games? Basically, its fun to think about adding all of these good teams, but at a certain point it becomes counter productive.

Exactly! 16 works much better than 14. Take this for an example:

SEC mountain pod: VT, Kentucky, NCSU, Tennessee

SEC Atlantic Pod: USC, UGA, UF, Auburn

SEC Central Pod: BAMA, Vandy, OM, MSU

SEC Gulf Pod: TAMU, LSU, Arky, Missouri

Play everyone in your pod annually. Play a home and home with one specific other pod and rotate every two years. Each school also has one designated rival from each pod that they play annually (LSU/Florida, Auburn/Alabama, TAMU/VT, etc). With a 9 game schedule, the format would be 3-4-2. This way you see everyone twice in a six year period, more than we do now.

The bottom line is not to just win football games it is to win championships. Everyone would be copying Boise if winning games was the only goal.

When the playoffs are decided by a small group of elites then SoS will really matter and a strong conference is a real boost.

I think if we have four super conferences in football, I believe the four teams will come from conference champions. That is the best thing that could come from this. Seeding would be based on SoS/conference strength...

I would prefer the ACC and Big 12 not raid each other. I would like to see 5 super conferences...the 5 champions plus one at-large would make a great playoff system.
