Personally I think it was probably ole miss that leaked the initial rumor that he was stepping down after the egg bowl. They had the extension on the table and Lane didn’t sign it. Can’t blame him for keeping his options open though if he was waiting to see auburns offer. The leak was more than likely an attempt to blow the entire thing up and force Lane’s hand. Having to address his team twice in as many days definitely gives some insight as to the position the initial leak has put him in.

Why would he say one way or the other. He holds all the leverage. If he came out and confirmed anything he would lose all of his leverage.
