Yep he was great. He and Ron Polk put SEC baseball on the map . Loved his philosophy and the way he wanted his teams to be

Bertman is all about respecting your opponent. You can hear it in everything he says even to this day when he's interviewed on radio.

Except Mississippi State. Skip still shits all over Starkville.

If you’ll take a few minutes to Google what he said about Mississippi State and Starkville in the past, I think you’ll be mighty entertained.

You are slightly misinformed. Ron Polk and Bertman were very good friends and took jabs at each other in clean fun. Being an LSU fan you only heard the ones Bertman said.

There is a long list of college baseball coaches in the south that made college baseball better.

Skip Bertman LSU, Tom Chandler A&M, Norm DeBryin Arkansas, Ron Polk MSU, Clif Gustafson tu, Ray Tanner, Scar, and I am sure I am leaving some out and I apologize for that.

These guys worked in horrible conditions at low pay and crummy facilities. Their excellence gave us the programs and facilities that we have now and we should be grateful for them.

You left off the guy who was Bertman’s mentor. Ron Frazier at Miami. Frazier was a Great Coach and the consummate salesman. He was a driving force in putting the College World Series on the map. Bertman learned from a Master.

Most SEC schools, including Alabama, should abolish their baseball programs. It's infuriating that they lose money on an athletic program that they aren't required by law to have.

I'm aware of that; I simply said it is entertaining since Skip is the subject of this thread.

Reading through this thread reminds me of how good the SEC Rant used to be.

We could get back there if we posted more of this type of content.

I love these stories, and the recollections that inevitably follow.

Thanks for bringing some quality memories into this shithole.

I love Coach, but that Saban story is revisionist history.

He didn’t care for Saban and Saban handled all communication with administration through Verge

Bertman says it wasn’t about the money. It was about the money.

Ask Saban now. He may admit it. He needed it.

And when he decided to return, he would have come to LSU. It will be the worst decision in the history of LSU not making the position available to him. For many reasons, mostly financial.
