First time there. Any suggestions on what to expect? All my away games have been super cool thus far, and rival fans have been great and welcoming. I’ve never used “thus” in a sentence, so I’m feeling pretty gangster right now. Oh yeah, GEAUX FREAKING TIGERS!

That sentence was completely redundant

Expect:

1. A lot of hot women
2. Wimpy frat boys in collared shirts/ties.
3. Cold chicken fingers.

I went last weekend for the first time…met lots of very nice people. Tons of cute females. Stadium has a stupid loud sound system that plays music that doesn’t seem to fit the demographics of those in attendance .

The Grove

Easily the most overrated and overblown attraction in all of world sport

Everyone crammed in like sardines, no open flames, no glass (the cops will search your ice chest and confiscate it from you), finger sandwiches and cold chicken tendies. Worst gameday experience I’ve ever had in the SEC

Cops are the worst at the grove. It’s almost like they’re trying to hide the fact that a party is going on.

I always laugh at this. Some people bring this because it's quick and easy and they don't give a shite but there's plenty of other fare for the picking.

Great point. Take that and couple it with this:

quote:

I'll probably catch flack, but Saturday's in the fall at Oxford blow. They really do. I've been a lot of places for football games, some for LSU games, others not (off the top of my head, I've been to games at LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, MS State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, A&M, Texas, TCU, Notre Dame, UNC, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Washington, Colorado State, Univ. of Ohio), and Ole Miss/Oxford, undoubtedly, is the most "challenging" to enjoy, if that makes sense. It's simply entirely too small, too crowded and congested, and way too much of a hassle. Everything has long waits, expensive covers, hard to maneuver and get around, no live music and bbq grills, drinking is a hassle - even as an adult. It just doesn't cater well to large crowds. Finding a place to stay is a hassle, getting in/out is a hassle, maneuvering through the Square and The Grove (which is a nice setting, just way too compact and discombobulated) is a hassle. It's just such a PIA that it simply isn't worth it. Take my advice and head up there in the spring when LSU plays Ole Miss in baseball. Much more enjoyable.

The Grove is one of the more unenjoyable experiences for anyone say 25 and older. I had great times there in college…now, as an adult, that place is as lame as Hampton’s croakies and Cooper’s bow tie.

Now, when I go to Oxford, assuming I can snag a table or bar seat, I’ll hang at Proud Larry’s, City Grocery, Blind Pig, The Growler, Ajax, Boure…

LSU fans try like hell to ignore the fact they have fans who bring cold food out of convenience just like everyone else.

While you should be able to have a good time tailgating in any SEC town, this is true. The Grove is way too damn compact, and just have a catheter inserted prior to going because you will not find a bathroom line with a wait time of less than 1 hour.

it isn't illegal to tailgate outside of the Grove. There's plenty of room.

Serious question, where would you suggest that isn't a parking lot?
