Considering that kids sue whenever the NCAA told them they had to do ANYTHING, it won't work - they'll either rule you can't do that again, or they'll do something asinine like say that sitting out a year adds an extra year of eligibility or other such nonsense.
This is an easy fix. Implement contracts. 5 year contract and if they break it have a buyout or the schools can all agree to a sit out clause.

Transfer portal
This is worse but they go hand in hand. Without NIL the portal wouldn't be an annual bidding war

If you are asking this question then you should also be asking the question of under the table money. Under the table payments to players built Bama, UGA, Florida, Florida State, and many others.
All NIL has done is level the payment field which is why you only see certain fanbases crying about it. You don’t see 85% of fanbases worrying or thinking about NIL or the portal.
Is it any wonder that when NIL started being used by most programs that the top teams like Clemson, Bama, UGA, FSU, UF, LSU all fell down the ladder? That’s why you see SEC schools attacking NIL and the portal. Now everyone can pay and tamper without being put on probation. Over the next 10 years you’ll see parity reign and rich schools like Vandy becoming elite programs.

NIL is a gift. I hate it because it really doesn’t have anything to do with love of school. It’s about desperation and deep pockets. How sick and fricking tired of losing are you and how much money you got? Fresh coach taking 3 years to build a roster are over. You can flip it in one year and move from complete loser to borderline playoff contender in one offseason if you evaluate correctly. Thats CFB now. If you lose, it’s because you are either stupid or cheap. Period.

There's definitely more parity. Just look at how Bama's winning. Most of the games are coming down to a play or two. That's not the way it was 10 years ago.
Do I miss the old days? Yes, of course. But better parity is probably better for the sport, long term.
We need to reign in/regulate NIL and reform the transfer portal.
The NFL has rules on salary, trades, free agency, etc...would be a good place to start.

No problems with NIL. It’s all the portal. You go to a school, you are locked in. You can transfer and lose a year. Or go down to FCS and play immediately. That rule was perfect.
No we don’t need a 1 time transfer rule or anything like that. Stop treating it like travel ball. Stick to your commitments

Yes it has. Nobody has any long term loyalty to a program. It's all about me now.

Yes. Transfer portal and NIL.
We need a cap per team and a limit on transfers.

Without the blue bloods then you do not have a sport. People are not tuning into the playoffs to watch Indiana and the G5 team play.
People love parity in the regular season. When it comes down to winning time though and teams are playing for hardware then they want to watch the giants play. Oh sure people like a Cinderella story. When you take away the blue bloods though and it’s just Cinderella everywhere then people will choose Law and Order reruns to watch over college football.

There’s going to be some regulations put down again at some point and there will be a documentary about the Wild West of NIL in a few decades.

With schools across America spending millions on NIL, why don’t I see names, images or likenesses of our favorite players anywhere, other than game day?

The modern imperative of win the college football playoff every year or you are an abject failure has.
I liked when the 4 major bowls tried for the best matchup they could get and then people argued about who was best.
Sugar, Cotton, Rose, and Orange Bowls.
The Mizlou and Raycom broadcasts of old bowls were like watching the lunar landing.

In some ways yes. In some ways no. We all know how and why it has ruined it.
But in support, it has distributed talent to more schools than the very tippy top…. It’s why we really aren’t seeing absolutely dominant teams. So, each Saturday seems to be ever more chaotic than years past.
PLUS! Now that coaches are being fired mid-season, it’s hyper driving the chaos.

The portal moreso than NIL, but NIL drives the portal madness.
No roster stability, no continuity, no standard, depth is a crapshoot, and accountability is virtually nonexistent.

The growing commercialization and industrialization of everything in this country is ruining our culture as a whole. Even the bread and circuses are becoming more transparently corporate.

Yes, in more ways than one. Look at Pavia suing to play college ball until he is an old man because of the NIL money and he would never be drafted.

No, it makes more games matter now

NIL made it more obvious who the bad coaches are, and who's only good when they have the best players. It hasn't "ruined CFB" but it's really put a dent in some programs who were paying players now that everyone can do it openly.
