The parallels between really shitty athletic departments destroying once proud programs is compelling.

I don’t know if I would say “passed”.. absolutely on equal footing. I know it was before I was born but you cannot ignore Tennessee’s history as far back as the General. That’s what tradition is.

Most schools have experienced mediocre periods. LSU’s lasted from Billy Cannon to Nick Saban. Although, I don’t believe it would have had the unthinkable not happened with Bo Rein.

Tennessee is being put through this hell because of the way they treated Phil…

Poor Phil… that man devoted his life, his ENTIRE LIFE, to the beacon on the hill… all he ever required was enough money to cover his Krispy Kream habit. He gave them back their dignity by beating Alabama regularly, conference and national championships, then he was summarily and embarrassingly dismissed. Why? Because it appeared he couldn’t compete with Nick in ‘cruitin or coachin’?? Don’t hand out the shite about him losing to an Alabama Mike, cause the same Mike kicked Ole’Erb’s arse that same season and you see what he achieved afterwards. Then, in your darkest hours, you turned back to Phil… he proved again his love for Tennessee and swallowed his pride to become the AD. He brought in Jeremy to do two things: take away the Alabama DC and make them start again, and instill some of the discipline Phil knew was so sorely lacking. But, wanting nothing but instant gratification, Tennessee fired them BOTH after what appears to be minor misunderstandings.

Yes, The Curse of The Babe appears to have nothing on The Curse of Phil…

The only thing better?? That Phil would have remained UTk’s head coach so he could have had all 14 of these arse whippins on his record. God grant the streak hits at least 20.

If you consider this an unclaimed title then I’m guessing the rest of the unclaimed titles listed are bogus.

There's no subjectivity when it comes to what constitutes an unclaimed national title, buddy; if it meets the NCAA criteria and the school doesn't claim it, it's fair game.

I think of UT now having to grasp at straws like making teeshirts when a kid has been bullied at school or trying to convince themselves they belong in baseball. Or thinking they are back for wins over no one.

It is really sad what has happened to them.

The curse of Fulmer is not because the way he was treated it is karma for how dirty he was while at Tennessee and got off scout free.

LSU really needs to claim their 1908 title...

Tennessee's "claimed" NCs and the Polls...remember AP started in 1936...Pepperidge Farms remembers...

1938 - Berryman, Billingsley, Boand, Dunkel, College Football Researchers Association, Houlgate, Litkenhous, Poling, Sagarin, Sagarin (ELO-Chess) Finished 11-0 but 11-0 TCU awarded the AP poll

1940 - Dunkel, Williamson Finished 10-1 Minnesota 8-0 awarded AP poll

1950 - Billingsley, DeVold, Dunkel, Football Research, National Championship Foundation, Sagarin (ELO-Chess) Finished 11-1 but 10-1 Oklahoma awarded AP poll

1951 - Associated Press, Litkenhous, United Press International (coaches), Williamson

1967 - Litkenhous Finished 9-2, USC 10-1 awarded AP poll

1998 - Associated Press, BCS, FW, National Football Foundation, USA Today

You got 2 legit titles and 2 legit beefs with the AP poll...

Even for a roughneck like yourself, this shouldn't be so difficult to comprehend.

NCAA-designated major selectors have crowned LSU the national champion on nine occasions. LSU claims four of these, meaning that LSU has five unclaimed national titles. Unfortunately, I cannot do anything about Anderson & Hester/Colley declaring you the 2011 National Champions despite your program/collective fanbase being teabagged by Alabama in New Orleans.
