Of course, everyone will say Saban. But he was still kind of a unknown up and coming head coach at the time with a 34-24-1 record at Michigan state.

Les miles... 28-21 at okie state.

Ed O....

What makes LSU think this round is gonna be different?

Miles and Ed won national championships. It doesn’t take a “great” hire to win big.

What do you consider a big name? If it's hiring a guy with a national title or something similar on his resume, most programs haven't, and that includes top 15-20 programs

I agree, and all three won natties. Whoever we hire next will be an upgrade, not sure why so many people are concerned about it.

Don't know that a Cigar hire is what they need anyway.
LSU missed the boat when they
let Flarda snatch Napier. A Saban student for
five years and who successfully modeled his
program at Louisiana after Alabama, he's
the one guy I was hoping LSU would not get.

At the time that LSU grabbed Saban - it was widely considered a damn smart hire. Saban had proven what he could do at Michigan State.

I remember, at the time, thinking LSU had nailed it. And they did. But nobody can compete with the NFL - if your coach has those kind of ambitions.

I'll say this about LSU - no school in the country has to try less to get more talent. Football players just grow up out of the ground in that part of the country. More than SoCal, and more than the Ohio part of the Rust Belt. And I don't think it's all that close. They're fans have lofty expectations for a reason. Just watch any given NFL draft to see why.

You really should try to avoid making sense on here. You’ll never fit in.

Hiring for the sole purpose of name recognition is STUPID and Tiger like. Scott got Fisher to Aggieland without any trouble or drama. Scott better realize it isn't the same lure to BR and he better change his strategy and quickly!! Napier was the guy he missed but still a few others than aren't brand names but excellent up and coming coaches.

Yes.

Anyone watching college football knew getting Saban out of Michigan State was a home run.

Les? Worked out for them, but no.

Whoever comes in won't be able to ride Sabans coattails and won't have a once in a generation talent show up on campus

I see a lot of losses ahead on the bayou
