When Alabama has had adequate coaching, Auburn has struggled to compete year in and year out with Alabama.
Alabama's title winning coaches:
Wallace Wade (1923-30) - never coached against Auburn
Frank Thomas (1931-46) - never coached against Auburn
Paul Bryant (1958-82) - 19-6 vs Auburn
Gene Stallings (1990-96) - 5-2 vs Auburn
Nick Saban (2007-present) - 2-2 vs Auburn
Who's to say what Wade or Thomas would have accomplished against Auburn, but those were Rose Bowl winning teams, and Auburn did struggle during those years. And who's to say what Saban will accomplish going forward. But trying to suggest Bryant was some anomaly is fictitious, when looking deeper.
I mean, you're trying to equate the series prior to Bryant as some valid point for moving forward. Alabama was hardly an establish program, relative to Georgia and Auburn at the time (1892-1907). And while Auburn has enjoyed success since Bryant retired at the end of the 1982 season, it's hardly ownership (17-13). And while Auburn has had that success, would you trade it for the SEC and national titles Alabama has enjoyed since 1982? I mean, if Bryant is such an anomaly, then why has the success continued, albeit in spurts (but that seems to be changing), if Bryant was just a 25 year period that was against the general grain?

It doesn't mean you Bama fans shouldn't still act arrogant or entiteled, we wouldn't recognize you otherwise, just that the gap is only in your mind not reality.

Uhm......as a matter of note, Auburn has 5 SECC's during that time, are about to play for their 6th, and may win the NC this year.
That'd pretty much be even as an impartial bystander.
Alabama has two national titles in the period since 1982.

No.
And that isn't what I said. I love you guys that misinterpret statements. I'm merely saying that there's not that much difference in the general public's perception.
And in little over a month, that tally is likely to be:
Auburn - 6 SECC's, 1 MNC
Alabama - 4 SECC's, 2 MNC
During the last 30 years.
Pretty even, IMO.

WDE24 you are on point. The original OP was in regards to '08-'09. I know I should have been more specific but the original point of the thread was to guage where others felt Auburn was in relation to BAMA after the 36 -0 loss of two years ago. Sorry I fell into the pissing contest trap.

Bama has won one game in Tuscaloosa against Auburn. Your school sucks. You have the dumbest rednecks in the state as your fan base.
We have beat your arse in your hometown. Tuscaloosa belongs to Auburn.

I do think Alabama is still 'ahead' of Auburn in terms of the whole package and probability of future SEC West titles, but its by a 'length',nothing remotely like the 1970's.
Totally agree.

Wow. The fact that you actually believe this is pretty scary

Honestly, I don't think Alabama had distanced themselves from Auburn as much as some of you assumed they had.

The gaps open and close both ways. They always have. That's why this is the best rivalry in sports. This is why we hate each other. Despite what the alabama old timers and the Auburn newbies say, there is USUALLY something at stake, and that's what makes this rivalry special. Alabama may have the history from the bear days, but Auburn has a pretty darn good history too, including a 6 pack more recently.
The fact that we're about to get another Heisman and hopefully another national championship is just another feather in our cap, but it took a monstrous comeback against our archrival to happen, as last year our "moral victory" wasn't the easiest pathway for the tide, yet they won it all last year.
For some to say that once Malzahn leaves and when Cam leaves we'll be back to 8-4 is no different than saying that since alabama lost 9 defensive starters, they won't win 10 games, "even with talent".
alabama goes 9-3 this year. We'll see where we go next year. But as far as talent, I think they will be even within 2 years.
There never was a gap. "Stars" don't mean everything. See Burton Scott.
