I'm mostly interested in the opinions of the (unbiased) fans from other SEC schools but fans from AU/BAMA feels free to comment. Has Auburn caught BAMA in talent and depth or is this year a flash in the pan named Cam Newton? The flash in the pan reference is in terms of his career (1 year stay) at Auburn and not reflective of his overall career. Give me some opinions on where AU/BAMA stand in regard to each other and what next season holds between the two. Damn, I cant believe I'm in the "wait till next year" mode.

No, Bama is on another level, when Cam leaves it will go back to the steady rivalry with Bama on top

You have a short memory my friend. AU was head and shoulders above Bama in talent just a few years ago. The rivalry has been fairly even over the last 30-40 years. The only difference is that Bama won NCs and AU got screwed out of anywhere from 1-3.

The Cam-Malzahn combo closed the gap.

But they will both be gone in a month or so and AU will return to 7-5/8-4.

Nope, not at all. Auburn had surged ahead, and by quite a large margin, when they won 5 or 6 in a row or whatever it was and bama had shula. Then Saban arrived and Saban went undefeated 2 regular seasons in a row, played in BCS bowls, won the SEC, won the national title...all while Auburn was trying to get it's legs under it. If Auburn wasn't going to get hit with massive sanctions in the next year or so, I might change my tune. But ONE good year doesn't make up for what bama accomplished under Saban. AU is certainly on the upswing, but they're not up to bama's level again yet. And who knows how good they'll be next year when the best player in the country isn't playing for them anymore.

Honestly, I don't think Alabama had distanced themselves from Auburn as much as some of you assumed they had.

I do think Alabama is still 'ahead' of Auburn in terms of the whole package and probability of future SEC West titles, but its by a 'length',nothing remotely like the 1970's.

Name Auburns accomplishments. Exactly. They are a notch above Ole Miss. Then again, Bama had one solid year like Auburn this year. I'd say Bama has a better program still but Bama wasn't relevant in the West for almost a decade.

Alabama had a rough period from 2000-2006, but still managed two ten win seasons in that time frame. Winning the SEC West in 2002, and was in the race in 2005.

Nope. Had the best record, but probation kept them from winning the west.

nick saban's record against auburn overall: 4-5

Saban's record against AU since at bammer: 2-2

Against Chizik: 1-1

Alabama has beaten Auburn two times lately.....if Chizik wins the SECCG, he will have surpassed Saban's second year at bammer.

At this point, Alabama needs to try to keep pace with us.

(edit: saban stats added because he's their whole program. when he leaves, they will go back to mid-tier like LSU is doing without him).

Are you serious ? If LSU is 'mid-tier' since 2004, Auburn must be NAIA.

Where the Hell do think Auburn is going to be next year?

Auburn loses 7 of their top 11 tacklers (not including Nick Fairley).
They had 8 Interceptions, all by Seniors
They had 30 sacks, they lose 11 sacks (not counting 9.5 by Fairley).
They lose 4 of their starting 5 OL.
They lose 3 out of their top 5 receivers
And this is not including Cam Newton.

Did you miss the first five years at LSU after Saban left? Even if Alabama managed to hire someone of his "caliber", we'd be fine for the first five seasons.

Let him dream. They know it and we all do it. Cam is their team. They are too busy sucking him off to see that once he leaves they are done.

No. Malzahn will be gone soon enough, and there aren't enough > signs in existence to fully express how much better Saban is than Chizik.

The SEC East was actually worth a shite in 2008 and 2009 though. Auburn has nothing to fear from South Carolina if they simply show up to play ball.

You lucky frickers backed into a national championship in 2007. After this year we will have TWO years better than yours this millenium. LSU was relevant only because of Saban. Les will drive you frickers to the ground before long.
