Since when? They pretty much stayed out of the entire discussion last year and left it up to the conferences and individual states regarding CFB.

Most governors of SEC states that I'm familiar with have pretty bluntly said that a vaccine exists and it's the people's decision to get it or not. They encourage getting it but aren't forcing you. However, make an informed decision knowing the risk if you don't. Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi. All governors have basically said some version of that. I'm sure Texas and Arkansas are similar. Unless vaccinated people start getting sick in actual statistical numbers, no shot that they change anything at all for the fall.

Louisiana, Missouri and Kentucky...........I dunno.

There scared it won’t work versus the douche variant

So everyone gets vaccinated just as 1 strain is dying off, and now it doesn't work against the new strain?

Not gonna lie, I’m concerned about the season.

As much as I want to believe it is not going to have an effect, I am afraid that it will. The current "leaders" are acting out of fear from public health officials. I am seeing patient, even those who are vaccinated, having some serious ramifications from this new variant. Most do have existing comorbidities, but the vaccine is not 100%. The worrisome part is that this is hitting younger people and kids pretty hard. Because of that my gut feeling is that by the time football season rolls around we are going to be forced to go back to some of these Draconian measures that probably had little impact. I spend hours each week listening to national leads who have been advocating going back to where we were a year ago.

It's kinda funny that yall were saying that you were overly cautious with the virus and have that reaction. I was the opposite. I thought the reaction to it was ridiculous and I still got vaccinated. Crazy times we live in.

Yea, I mean I wouldn't say I was overly cautious - but I was certainly more cautious than most of the people I've read here (a lot of that due to having kids and us having a baby in April 2020 - so pregnant wife and then newborn/infant through all of 2020 created a little different scenario in our household than for others).

But once vaccinations came out and were proven to be 99%+ effective against every strain in existence....that's it. It's over. Anyone who gets sick from here on out gets sick because of their choice.

I spend a lot of time around my mom and and so does my kid. Then she spends a lot of time with my ex in laws. They're all in their 70s. So, I really did it for them.

I mean in reality I did it because it was the ticket to get normality back (kind of like what you were saying). Both individually and just societally. The idea that we don't get normality back societally after a functional vaccine is available to 100% of the population is preposterous.

This man gets it. They’re shutting down the major leagues, so we are at the mercy of the dipshits of the NCAA.

We've seen major-league games, pro golfers, NBA players, Olympians all getting cancelled/shut down recently because of Covid. There is no question this coming season will be impacted by the rising totals.

Most every stadium will be full capacity but it will be rare to see a packed house. Maybe a couple of schools will be able to pull it off for a couple of big games. But the interest in going to these games packed in sardines while Covid is still spreading is going to drop, so packing 100k in will be rare.

I'm afraid you're correct.

We can all argue until we're blue in the face about the logic of it, or even the necessity of it, but regardless we are currently trending in a familiar direction that does not bode well.

IIRC, Los Angeles County is to begin requiring masks indoors again.

Again, arguments to the contrary notwithstanding, this may ultimately affect sports whether we like it or not.

Correct. Georgia is an embarrassment to the South.

Yep, it already is. Yankees cancelled this weekend. Chris Paul missed playoff games, Bradley Beal out of the Olympics, Jon Rahm having to withdraw from the Memorial he was leading. And some of that was before the recent surge in cases. Wait until the kids all return to school in the fall.

People who are worried can get the vaccine.

What's the issue?

The problem with the new variant........people who have been vaccinated are getting the new strain. Apparently it is more contagious than the last. I don't understand why everybody doesn't get vaccinated? It is free. I had my two shots at Walmart. I may have spent 45 minutes combined on the two trips.
