He was a defender on that play, moving towards our guy who was returning an INT, about 7 feet away from him. He got blocked. I bet Murray himself would tell you that that was his fault. Gotta keep that head on a swivel, fam.

While, from a technical point of view and given the rules on the day they played that game you are correct, there is a reason that exact same play would be targeting today.

Yes, but that reason does not make this gif evidence for what is being claimed NOW.

I’ve sat and discussed officiating with Dick Burleson at length many times. It’s in their DNA to truly believe they are somewhat infallible.

I love Dick, but it’s frustrating as hell!

Long before the targeting rule. Intentional blindside hits like that have always been considered cheap shots.

At least he felt the need to send out a letter and it wasn't because of LSU complaining

Whew! And here is was thinking it was a helmet to helmet hit! It was just a block.

Had Mack Wilson sat on top of Fromm for 5+ seconds, and then did that, then it would have been called, and you would have a point.

When grazing a QBs face mask during the run of play is a personal foul, shoving a QBs head down after the play is over is absolutely a personal foul. How long he did/didn’t sit on top of him is irrelevant.

Also the ball needs an RFID chip. enough of this spotting with your foot bullshite. The technology is there, use it.

If the technology is viable in a football setting, I'm all for it. But I'm curious as to just how that would work. Where would you place the RFID chip--middle of the ball, one or both of the ends? Can the RFID chip determine where forward progress was stopped?

Also the ball can take a lot of punishment during the game and is built for it...but is the chip sturdy enough to withstand all the kicking, tackling, and being jumped on?

I'd say that its totally relevant seeing as how it looks a lot worse to a ref than a quick get up from a tackle/push down of person being tackled(which happens all the time, and isn't called all that much.)

Blatantly sitting on a player(of whom didn't even possess the ball) for 5 seconds after you brought him to the ground, and then following that with a blatant push down of the QB is going to catch the ref's attention MUCH MUCH easier. Pretty simple stuff here.

If you say what the UT player did was a personal foul then what Mack Wilson did is absolutely one. If you disagree with that you’re a blond homer or a troll.

Wilson’s was much, much worse.

You didn’t expect anything contrite or anything substantive from Skanky did you?

I am not saying that it shouldn't have been, but something like what Mac did goes unnoticed or ignored ALL THE TIME in football.

Purposely sitting on top of a player(who doesn't even have the ball no less) FOR FIVE+ SECONDS, AND pushing the player down as he is getting up is just not going to go unnoticed.

and I'm a brunette homer BTW.

There’s an actual rule in place for what Wilson did. There’s not one for what the UT player did.

That alone makes it worse.

SEC needs to make referees accountable. The lead ref should be forced to answer questions by the press after games just like coaches.

really? SEC needs?
these are the people that created this mess! they have no intention of policing themselves.
