A lot of the mystique from that team was because Florida shite the bed so bad

Although that Florida team was very good, they were a terrible matchup for Nebraska. They were a soft, young, pass-oriented team with no familiarity with the Nebraska style of offense and no studs up from to counter it effectively.

Before the Fiesta Bowl, Nebraska was an overthrown TD pass from an eight game bowl losing streak. FSU and Miami were a lot more familiar with Nebraska and put more emphasis on defense than Spurrier, especially at that time.

As for the regular season, Nebraska always beat the shite out of the Big 8 except for when Switzer was at OU.

1995 Nebraska was a great team, but OU being rock bottom, no OOC opponents with more than six wins, and a bowl opponent poorly equipped to defend them helped a lot.

The 1982, 1983, 1987, 1993, and 1996 Nebraska teams would have had a great shot at a national title with the 1995 team’s schedule and bowl opponent.

In terms of matchups, I would like to see a team with no NFL arm, no NFL receivers, and a colossal head case at TB line up in the I and run over the 2021 UGA defense with Smart and a bunch of first round draft picks. Good luck with that shite.

1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers

But did they win 5 games in 6 days?

Or what about only allowing 1.2 points per game over 12 games?

That 1995 Nebraska team was great, but they are not the 1899 Iron Men of the South!

Greatest College football team of all time…

1899 Sewanee Football.. Sewanee was one of the first college football powers of the South and the 1899 team was one of its best. The 1899 Tigers won 12 games and lost none, outscored opponents 322–10, and won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) title.

This isn't even debatable.

2019 LSU team was indeed special.

However, the GOAT team should have a great coach worthy of leading such a team.

The real GOAT team actually had the GOAT HC. Plus, this team had 3 players who could have won the Heisman that year. Just better by a definite slight margin.

"Unrivaled"
That "greatest team ever" was a dropped TD pass (RB transferred to USC the following year) away from losing to a very average 2019 Texas team, and you know it.

1995 Nebraska - Most Dominant
2001 Miami - Great assembly of talent
2019 LSU - Offensive GOAT

Nebraska 1995 Schedule
Oklahoma St 4-8
Michigan St 6-5-1
Arizona St 6-5
Pacific 3-8
Washington St 3-8
Missouri 3-8
#7 Kansas St 10-2
#5 Colorado 10-2
Iowa St 3-8
#9 Kansas 10-2
Oklahoma 5-5-1

Not exactly murders row. They only played 6 teams with a winning record.

To go one step further here are the ranked wins their opponents had

Michigan St beat #17 Michigan
Arizona St beat #18 Oregon
Kansas St beat #9 Kansas
Colorado beat #15 aTm, #7 Kansas St, #18 Oregon
Oklahoma tied #14 Texas

1995 Nebraska was a very dominant team, but they really didnt face a lot of competition during the year.

I already posted this stuff a few months ago Old SEC Rant topic

LSU playing the Nebraska 1995 Schedule
#2 Clemson
#5 Oregon
#7 Oklahoma
#9 Penn St
Mississippi St would be the next best team

LSU playing the Miami 2001 Schedule
#8 Alabama
#14 Auburn
#15 Iowa
#18 Michigan
#19 Appalachian St
#21 Cincinnati
Texas A&M would be the next best team

Miami playing the LSU 2019 Schedule
#2 Orgeon
#4 Tennessee
#6 Oklahoma
#7 LSU
#8 Nebraska (this is the best team they played)
#14 Syracuse
#25 BYU
Next would be an 8-5 ATM type team

Nebraska playing the LSU 2019 Schedule
#2 Florida (played in the championship and demolished)
#4 Florida St
#6 Ohio St
#7 Kansas St (beat them regular season)
#8 Northwestern
#14 Texas
#25 Iowa
Next would be an 8-5 ATM type team which would have been their 4th best on the year.

It's easy to romanticize about the 1995 Nebraska or 2001 Miami teams, but when they are put in perspective I think the 2019 LSU team holds up.

The rankings and opponents would be from the perspective year that each team played

Well this is an opinion and you are entitled to it. I posted the facts.
95 Nebraska had an easy schedule. Only one team they beat had a top ten win. Only 6 teams had a winning record. LSU beat more ranked teams than Nebraska played teams with a winning record

In that case it was still 2005 Texas Longhorns because we beat the greatest team of all time (according to ESPN).

Nah, for me it’s gotta be what general Neyland did at Tennessee did at Tennessee from 1938 and 1939.

1939- The 1939 Tennessee Volunteers football team is notable for being the last college football team to complete a regular season undefeated, untied, and without allowing a single point to any opponent, meaning they did not allow a single point throughout the entire regular season. They won their 10 regular-season games in '39 by a combined score of 212-0. Finally lost 14-0

1938- The 1938 Tennessee football team finished with an undefeated season in which the team scored 293 points in 11 games and only surrendered 16 points.

Tennessee went 20-0 in the regular season and only gave up 16 points in 2 years. That team only gave up 1.25 points a game over that time span. That 1939 team was the last team to finish a regular season to not be scored on. To me that is greatness!

This isn’t true

Colorado beat KST who finished 7th
Florida beat Tennessee and FSU who finished 3rd and 4th respectively
KST beat Kansas who finished 10th
Kansas beat Colorado who finished 5th
