Very hard to believe Grant is fired this year such that Pearl is an option. Still believe Pearl is basically asking for a serious lens to be on your program because he'll never change.

I understand why Bama got rid of Gottfried but damn, the fact he's able to have NC State as a ranked team through outstanding recruiting in year two while Grant is still struggling along to find a way is pretty indicative that Grant just isn't going to get it done.

Mark Gottfried at the end of his tenure at Bama was no better. He was losing every other game practically. Truth be told, even in Newton and Sanderson, Alabama has just NEVER had a great basketball coach able to make Alabama a perennial contender. Grant has failed. He took some gambles on internationals with raw talent, injuries hit and suffered what looks to be a bust in Pollard... but still.... 37 points vs Auburn? damn.

Even Gottfrieds' teams scored more than 37 points against weaker opponents such as Auburn, lol. That was 37,right? At 55 y/o,I'm beginning to accept the fact that we'll never be relevant in basketball, though I'll always watch and support it. Maybe someone will prove me wrong before I pass.

If Alabama had Saban and Pearl, that would just be too much awesomeness for one to handle.

Agreed.

They're pretty similar actually, although Gottfried's high point seems to be a little higher than Grants.

Grant, and I still have hope that he'll be successful even after last nights debacle.

Between this thread and the melt that occurred on the Bama board...not sure if hope springs eternal on the interwebs.

neither

they seem to be opposite sides of the same coin. gottfried was all offense and no defense. grant is all defense and no offense.

I am very surprised at how Grant has done, considering he was always assumed to be the successor whenever Donovan decides to step aside. I think he is a good coach and will get more time, but I thought he would have more success at this point.

This is the correct answer. I like Grant, but if he has any pride at all he was in Mal's office this morning offering his apologies and/or resignation.

Gottfried... Elite 8 appearance and the only #1 ranking in school history. But he sucked near the end.
