Sorry for the completely wrong numbers for UGA on my first post. Lets try this again!

First off, congrats dawgs. Seriously impressive to go back to back after losing 14 starters and taking 0 transfers in the portal. Only a great coach with some serious roster management and top tier recruiting could do that. Props to what Kirby is doing with your program.

I know many of you are trolling 2019 LSU with these goat comparisons but I thought I would give a little perspective with some stats.

Georgias 3 top 10 wins were won by margins of 14, 1, and 58; an average of 24.3. LSU’s 7 top 10 wins were won by margins of 7, 14, 3, 5, 27, 35, 17. 2019 Lsu is in goat convo because of number of top 10 wins with average top 10 margin of victory of 15.4. It comes down to whether you value margin of victory or number of top 10 wins.

95 Nebraska beat 4 top 10 teams by 38, 23, 24, 38. An average of 30.75. That’s why I can see the debate for calling them the goat over 2019 LSU. 95 nebraska v 2019 lsu comes down to whether you value margin of victory or number of top 10 wins. I can see arguments for both.

2020 Bama had 3 top 10 wins by margins of 17, 17, 28 (avg. 20.7). Less top 10 wins and lower margin of victory than 95 Nebraska. Same argument can be made with margin of victory versus number of top 10 wins when comparing to 2019 LSU.

2001 Miami had only 1 top 10 win. To be fair, number of top 10 wins and margin of victory are only part of the conversation when talking about GOAT teams.

Most talented is definitely part of the conversation and with 38 players drafted from the 2001 Canes, they have my vote as most talented ever. For reference 2019 LSU had 30, 95 Nebraska had 27, and 2020 Bama has had 25,

Also super interesting that all these GOAT comparisons tend to center around number of top 10 wins and margin of victory in those wins. Champions are going to start averaging 6+ top 10 wins with the expanded playoffs.

It will never get settled but I figured I would offer some perspective.

2020 Bama still has players to be drafted. Young, Anderson, Battle, et al. They will probably pass 2019 LSU and definitely 1995 Nebraska.

Yeah 2020 bama was super talent rich. It would have taken way more time to determine which players didnt play during their teams championship run and not count those towards the draft numbers for the "talent" portion of the discussion. Way too much work lol

Someone on this board already did that.

I think the only team that had a significant number of opt outs/Rona cases was LSU on Alabama's 2020 schedule.

I was talking more if a freshman redshirted or a player was hurt the year his team won the championship but he wound up being drafter 2 or 3 years later. He would count towards the number drafted from that team but didn't contribute to the championship run.

It also comes down to how meaningful a random number like "top 10" is (and how accurate). Auburn finished at 14... they weren't a top 10 team. Texas finished at #25. They weren't either.

UGA played 5 teams in the top 16. They beat #15 by 46 and #16 by 20. That's a 27.6 average.

They played 7 teams in the top 25. They beat #20 by 26 and #23 by 41. 29.4 average.

LSU's numbers don't change because they played 7 ranked teams, same as UGA. But the games were much closer on average.

UGA beat #2 by over 50. LSU didn't have a win against a ranked team by that much.

UGA beat #15 by 46. Again.. LSU didn't have a ranked win by that much.

UGA beat #23 by 41. LSU didn't have a ranked win by that much.

UGA beat #20 by 26. LSU had two wins by that much... #7 by 35 and #4 by 27.

UGA beat #16 by 20. Other than the above 2, LSU didn't have any additional wins by that much.

UGA beat #6 by 14. LSU had a win over #2 by 17 and a win over #6 by 14.

UGA beat #4 by 1. LSU had a win over #8 by 5, #14 by 3 and #25 by 7.

UGA did better.

I don't know all the stats but lsu did face nfl talent qb in Tua, though he was hurt, and Hurts. Not sure what other qb they faced that was that highly ranked.

Ga faced Stroud, I believe he is the most talented qb they faced.

So comparing who they faced lsu would get the nod.

Who gives a shite. Championships are won in the year they are played.

Comparing teams from different years and especially different eras is fun but dumb. For that reason, most people on here do it for fun. Unfortunately, my fellow LSU fans take it way too personally.

If someone wants to compare themselves to our 2019 team, that is a compliment because they are saying we are the standard bearer. Say thank you and move on.

I think the 5 that have the best argument are

1971 Nebraska
1995 Nebraska
2001 Miami
2019 LSU
2020 Alabama

I personally think 1995 Nebraska is the best ever, but have zero issue if someone thinks one of the other four are.

Yeah I mean you can have the cutoff anywhere, top 15, top 20, ranked.

Top 10 wins or ranked wins would be my cutoff.

IF you beat a top 10 team, you beat a top 10 team. They may not be top 10 at end of the season but you still beat them when they were top 10. Either way 2019 LSU beat 5 teams that ended the season in the top 10 while this years Georgia beat 3.

UGA faced 2/3 of the Heisman QBs.
Stroud and Duggan.

Hooker, Levis, Nix, Richardson, and Rattler will be drafted.
Rogers holds all of the SEC records.

I'm sorry, that's stupid.

When App State beat A&M, they were #6.

Beating A&M was not a top 10 win. They finished below .500. Ranking at the time of the game is a ridiculous thing to look at.

Yes, and UGA beat their top 10 (and ranked) opponents by a much larger margin on average.

What people forget about 2019 LSU is that while they likely had one of the best offenses of all time if not the best offense... their defense was just average.

UGA this year was top 10 in both... which is why they had larger margins against ranked opponents.

I think its crazy to compare but interesting.

I think its fair to say 2019 LSU and 2020 Bama and 2021 and 2022 Georgia would be great games.
As we all know variables, fumbles, injuries can change in a second.
Basically, you never know.

But being a Homer tells me to appreciate 2019 LSU's Championship because it was the last "True" championship before Covid, NIL and TP. All have changed the game for me and how I view the college football game.
Also Joey B could beat the brakes off anyone.
