This is a little before my time but, are you saying if I knew David Duke personally I probably would feel differently about him too?
By all accounts, he was a brilliant person and he also donated heavily, according to several sources, to needy children. You know, he just made sure they were white children just as Dawn Stalely is most assuredly donating time and money to help black children.
Hell, for that matter, the KKK was all about helping single mothers, while also murdering and harassing white men who beat their wives.
Should we all reassess our feelings about their historical significance?

He had more friends, and friends in high places too, than could almost literally be counted.

Two things are going on regarding Dawn Staley. Yeah, for some, they'd welcome Jeffrey Dahlmer as long as he could coach a good scheme. They'll overlook about anything for their preferred brand. And overlook nothing for any other.
But there's another thing going on with her. Some people just refuse to believe its true. They see her actions and tell themselves "there must be something else to it".
Those people, generally, have never had somebody try to kick their arse in a bar or on a job-site. They refuse to believe that some people just don't like them and never will.
