That’s right. It’s not Walmart. It’s the Waffle House scholars program for geeks who couldn’t get into Perimeter College.

You must not have gotten out of the house often. I live here and they're everywhere. My daughter will graduate from Tech in Spring and we're so happy that Tech was her choice. Its a great school and I'm hoping that they can turn things around. Its harder to succeed there but there is no reason that they cant have a winning program.

Don’t believe this guy. Tech fans in Atlanta -or for that matter the state of Georgia - are scarcer than hens teeth. Lived here most of my life so I’m in a position to know. Their fan base is so small their apparel providers hardly produce any GT merchandise since the market is so tiny. The nerds on the GT boards are always complaining about it when they aren’t whining that the company can’t get that ugly French mustard color on their uniforms right.

Is that when they announced their starting QB?

They are not "everywhere". I lived ITP for 7 years prior to moving out of state and barely saw a tech fan anywhere.

No reason at all except for no money, huge debt, a decrepit stadium on a Gawd ugly campus in a congested dirty crime ridden area of the city, horrible facilities, few majors, one of the most depressed nerdy student bodies in the entire country and they don’t give a damn about football, the support and success of UGA seen and felt everywhere they go, everywhere!- an administration that doesn’t care about football and one of the smallest fan bases to be found anywhere.
A winning program? Can’t imagine why not?

You hardly ever see a GT fan. When you actually do see one wearing a GT hat or tee it gets your attention since they are so rare.

Georgia State with Shawn Elliott has won 34 football games since he became HC in 2017 - including a win at Tennessee - GSU is 3-1 in bowl games -
Georgia Tech has won 26 football games since 2017 - Tech is 0-1 in bowl games -

As a 35+ year resident of ATL, I'm the rare non alum fan of GaTech. Let's just all stipulate that it's location in Ga is the single biggest asset of the State on a national and international basis.
As far as football, it really needs a boost, and soon, since their older alumni base (who love Southern football) are dying out. Tech has a large portion of its alumni scatter all over the US and world, making it challenging to support the athletic program.

Says the fan of the team with zero national titles, the last divisional title being over a decade ago, and the last conference title (ACC) over 50 years ago, and a .400 bowl record.

Can’t believe a fan of the Joke by Coke is actually criticizing another team’s record. Y’all aren’t doing too well yourselves buddy.
That 1990 Natty you are so proud of was shared by Colorado and pretty much a gift from a committee having to chose a winner in a below average year for college football. Most of those bowls y’all use to brag so much about were played on frigid blue fields or in converted baseball stadiums in mid December. And y’all can’t even rate that nowadays.
I’d worry more about GT if I were you. Your program is in serious trouble. It really wouldn’t be surprising if Tech abandons football all together in a few years. Your administration would have no objection at all and there aren’t enough fans to matter

GT is NOT jealous of UGA. GT alums can assure this based off their banking accounts.
Posted on 8/23/23 at 9:50 am to FLTech
A lot of hatred gushing from UGA fans here. Wouldn’t think they’d care this much. Simply put, for education Ga Tech is clearly better. For sports UGA is better. All I was saying is Ga Tech can have a winning football program again. Maybe not on par with the best programs but respectable. Don’t kid yourself that there aren’t Tech fans. That’s just stupid.

this is something that I rarely ever see get brought up but is a massive deal that I don't think people really grasp. Tech was decent for a while back in the post WWII era. There's a segment of older boomers that grew up tech fans and are still fans. In teh 90s they had another brief blip of success going through O'leary but their appeal to a wide audience pretty much stopped when gailey entered and they haven't done anythign in the 21st century to really atrract a new audience. Those original boomers had kids who are likely not very interested mainly due to tech's sucking, and that generation's kids aren't goign to care one single smidgen. Once that boomer generation dies off, the only people that are really going to be fans are likely alums, most of which leave ATL right after graduation to take higher paying and better jobs elsewhere.
Once all the aforementioned financial support dries up where are they going to get money? Unless they start winnign really big and really soon their program is going to be in serious financial trouble.

Both schools provide a great education. It always makes me chuckle when I hear tech fans blaming their struggles in sports on 'higher academic standards'. Georgia Tech would take any player on Georgia's roster. How's Blalock working out for you?

Agree (25+ for me). Some good programs/teams in the 90's, but after Ross, Cremins and especially Homer Rice left, things started going downhill (jmho).

Pretending Tech/ Georgia is a rivalry…that’s cute.
Last 15 years:
Georgia vs Georgia Tech: 11-3
Georgia vs Auburn: 13-3
Apparently Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate is more of a rivalry than DSOR.

I remember talking to some old timers 45+ years ago and they were telling me about the way it used to be in Atlanta back at the height of the Dodd years. They were all Teck fans. Grant field on a Saturday was the place to be. The state's movers and shakers were all in attendance. Georgia struggled with them back then. I was a small boy when Georgia beat them in Atlanta to break the "drought." Georgia retired the jersey number of the player that scored the TD against Teck. Don't remember what the number was or if it is still retired.
That old fanbase has passed on and right now there aren't a lot of fans in Metro Atl that were around when they last had some success. They were good in 1990 but that was 33 years ago.
I would not be surprised if they eventually dropped football or maybe even start playing at the non-P5 level.
Years ago some football folks in charge made some bad decisions - when Dodd and Teck left the SEC and later on when Bowden and FSU elected to go to the ACC.
