Georgia must go no farther than its own backyard for the nation's top talent, has minimal in-state competition for recruits, has top-notch (and ever-improving facilities) and a proven track record of sending players to the NFL. If you can't get players here, check your pulse.

LSU was #5. Bama #6 Florida #7 Auburn #11 Texas A&M #12 Tennessee #16 Ole Miss #24 Arkansas #25 Miss St #28 USCe #34 Mizzou #36 Kentucky #54 Vandy #58

I agree Georgia is definitely up there. However, I think people really underestimate the effect of proximity to so many major programs other than UGA to that talent. Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson all extremely close to where distance isn't really a factor. And you have the likes of Florida State and Florida coming in from the south.

It is the easiest because it is next to the largest metro area in the southeast. There are 20 top 100 players all within 200 miles of campus every year.

I heard on Georgia sports radio that not only does Georgia have a ton of talent, but Georgia has a lot of recruits who are in "stable" home situations living with "stable" families.

I took that as code for the large number of middle class to upper middle class black families where the recruits father is married to their mother.

I don't think this surprises anyone. This, more than anything, was one of the reasons it was not a hard decision to let Richt go. GA is a national brand now and our state is overflowing with recruits..just need the right coach to pull it all together.

I understand the logic, all I'm saying is there are 5-6 major programs whose distance isn't enough to be a factor who will come in every year and poach some of those away from an already pretty transient area.

There are parts of the metro area known as the "blackburbs"...South Dekalb,South Fulton and parts of Fayette County that fit that mold but also mixed suburban areas in Gwinnet and N. Fulton that also produce kids like that. Not that you still don't prospects from some very bad backgrounds.

Makes sense for now but if Miami can bounce back in a few years, 3 big time programs will be fighting inside that state.

Lots of large metro areas across the country that don't come close to producing the same amount of prospecfs.

Ga ranks second to Florida when it comes to FBS signees per HS FB participants.

And don't forget UCF...down this year but more than capable of producing a top 20 team. Far more competition in Florida.

This list is the exact reason why I have always said that in the long run, the premier programs in the SEC will be LSU, UF, UGA, and Texas A&M. The recruiting and college football landscape is light years different now from where it was when Bear was the coach at Bama. Back then it was much easier to win based on coaching alone. Nowadays talent matters so much more, that the only way they will maintain is if they can hire coaches like Saban who are incredible recruiters. Its possible, but it will be harder for them to do than the 4 programs I mentioned above. Kids don't give a shite about tradition anymore. Its about location and the coaches.

UGA is a great place for recruiting. Their problem is that they keep getting raided, quite successfully, by out-of-state schools. Kirby's biggest job will be keeping his old boss at bay, really.
