I guess he could go to the NFL and probably make $4mil easy.

Got to let him walk at that number.

I find it hard to believe that Beck's "people" are giving Georgia a demand to be paid $4M or he leaves.
Maybe I'm just naive, but I don't believe that.

I’d let him walk. He’s done a good job, but not thay good.
At that price I’d just offer 8 to the open market and take our pick of all the QBs in the nation.

If that really is the case, UGA would be better off to let him walk. There are other QBs out there.

Demand? No one else is going to pay that price.

How many returning QBs do you think are better than Carson Beck? I think a 'demand' like this is ridiculous, but Beck will be one of the top returning QBs in the country next year.

Good Lord. Brock Purdy only has a 3.7M contract over 4 years.

He has the option to go pro so can you really blame him? To me, this is where the NIL is actually pretty good. He probably wants to stay at UGA and compete for another championship but the risk of injury and reward of getting paid now by the NFL certainly make it a tough decision. While $4M is crazy, from his side he would probably make more than that if he goes pro.
Eli loved Ole miss and stayed an extra year, Peyton did the same with UT, Tebow at Florida. Best recent example is probably Herbert with Oregon, he would have been a top 5 pick after his junior year. They decided to stay, but imagine what they would have asked for and received to make that decision easier for them if there was NIL money to be had. Carson Beck isn't these guys, but he's a 1st round pick and has that decision to make.

UGA will pay that or at least get close to it. Beck is a very good QB that will only be better next year if he stays.
Georgia will probably get him just north of $1M.
If he leaves for the NFL, he leaves for the NFL.
$4M is supposedly an offset for a 2nd/3rd round QB in the draft.
As for Mike Griffith... he is the type of insider who gets fed information that someone "wants" out there.
He is often "first" and often "wrong".
He doesn't mind being someone else's tool (fool).

Not to mention the hinted at reasoning for a high number being that his backup left and now he has more leverage over the program.
I get that's how you do business in the NFL, but this isn't the NFL. I just don't see it, but it's possible this is the game and it's already just the norm.

As always, Saban was right. This is an absolute mess. Nothing was put in place to curb it. We can all say it was always like this, now it’s just out in the open! Not the case. This sport is ruined. And I think last sunday at noon ruined it for a lot of people even more. I won’t pay another dollar to go to a game. Not just because of this thread, whether it be true or not. It just the whole thing doesn’t feel right any more, transfer portal, NIL, shite arse committee, 12 team playoff trying to gouge you for seats. You can’t go to a good home game at UGA for less than $1000 round trip. That’s for 1 ticket. Just insane.

Asking and receiving are 2 different things.
And the story is coming from Mike Griffith.
There is no need to make this a bigger issue than it is.
Beck is deciding if he should go pro or not.
He's trying to use NIL to make his decision easier.

Georgia/Smart coming back down to earth hard.

Mike Griffith is a hack and has zero sources in the Georgia football program. He just writes sensationalized pieces for the AJC's break off Georgia site. I don't believe this reporting one bit.

Doesn’t matter. This shite is ridiculous. Especially the portal part

Somebody needs to introduce carson beck to spencer sanders with quickness.
Posted on 12/6/23 at 11:28 am to TearsofKnowshon
The problem with giving in is it sets precedent for everyone else on the roster and the future.

I feel like for 4 million, we can have our pick of QBs around the nation.
Does that kid serious think he's worth more than the UGA OC & QB coach salaries?
