Kirby even said headed into the Sugar Bowl that the guys play harder for Gunner. Now, was that CFP quarterfinals happy talk, or was it accurate? Only he knows for sure.

The bit about Beck being a bad fit for the locker room definitely seems like it could be true, however.

He ain't got that Dawg in him. Not like Aaron Murray, Jake From and definitely not like Stetson Bennett.

The entire understanding was he was going to the NFL draft. That was the whole plan. He was very high on the draft boards. UGA and Beck had already planned for this. Gunner and Puglisi have patiently waited for their turn, just like Carson Beck did. The injury ruined all that. Kirby didn't want Gunner or Puglisi to transfer, because they are the future - not Beck. With Beck getting surgery and rehab and not being able to go through Spring, Kirby also couldn't guarantee he'd start. Enter Miami and the money, willing to take a chance on a damaged good, it's a no-brainer.
Thanks for the explanation.

So, UGA is planning on Gunner or Puglisi, one of them, to emerge as "the guy"? How are they looking now? I admittedly didn't see UGA's opening. I do remember thinking Gunner looked way not-ready, end of last season.

BTW, that's not an attack. In 2001, Rohan Davey looked great at LSU, he got hurt and Matt Mauck came into the SEC championship and won, looking like all he could do is run, not pass. He was the starting QB for the 2003 national champ team.
Same thing with Matt Flynn behind Jamarcus Russell a couple years later, Flynn was iffy in relief, then won a title later down the line. Gunner could take that step too.

Lots of UGA fans really butthurt over something really simple and common sense. They wouldn't have had any problem with him forgoing his last year of eligibility to the NFL "for the money"- but when he does the same thing to Miami due to injury circumstances, they hate him.

See I wasn't even sure this was the case. Looking in from the outside, it seemed like UGA had moved on, like it had planned on him leaving after last season no matter what. And with his draft status fricked by the injury, almost as though he had to find somewhere else to play a year.

From what I'm gathering, that kinda was the case, but it was due to him making it that way, and he had to scramble for a soft landing spot.

Gunner is the official starter. He looked good against Marshall. He'll look good this week vs Austin Peay. We'll see how far he's really come the week after in Knoxville. But the same could be said for our OL and Running Game which were piss poor last year. I'm not worried about receivers, they can't be shittier than last year. It's not possible.

I don’t think he meant they play harder for Gunner than they do Beck, I think he meant they play harder than they might otherwise do so because of Gunner. It wasn’t about a Beck at all.

I don't think that's what he meant, but I think they do play harder for Gunner.

Something tells me he felt the love from the fans waning. Especially after Stockton got burn. Add in the money and Miami just produced the no1 overall pick. It was a good move for all involved

Maybe but Kirby would never trash a UGA player like that (or even a former player) as the guy who linked the article implied. I think they might like Gunner better, but Kirby wasn’t comparing Beck and Gunner.

I don't think they wanted him to stay that bad. It was mutual imo. UGA didn't even come close to matching Miami's offer and it likely would of taken beating it substantially to keep him.

Carson faced a lot of criticism last year, not just for the interceptions, but for his attitude as well. Was often seen smiling and laughing on the bench afterwards. Noticeably absent in those scenes were his teammates encouraging him. Usually it was just him sitting there with the 3rd string QB chatting. Unsurprisingly both of those guys are gone now.

The quote-

“All the players play harder for him,” Smart said. “Do you make the players around you better is what you look for in a quarterback. I think he raises the skill level of everybody around him because of who he is.
So that’s my reason for believing he’s a good quarterback.”

This is Kirby trying to talk up Gunner's intangibles in a press conference because there was so little tangible experience to talk up. He'd played half a game. This "lunch pail guy" and "first in last out" talk. The writer absolutely tried to turn that into some kind of hit piece against Beck because the writer's job is to get clicks. That's why he gets paid. The reason his boss hires him and pays him is for getting clicks. Straight objective news unfortunately doesn't get clicks. People blame the media for being awful in all categories but the media is really just catering to what the moron population chooses to consume.

UGA fans will tell you that it's no big deal and some will even try to argue that Mr one read happy feet Gunner is an upgrade..... LMAO.

But the truth is he left for greener and easier pastures down to South Beach and will never look back at the trailer park infested crap hole known as Athens ever again. Huge loss for Kirby.

Yeah, you could just tell that the players played better with Bennett on the field. He's like Colonel Kilgore the surfing general played by Robert Duvall on Apocalypse Now....he had some 'weird glow' around him that everyone rallied around and it even gave them confidence to rally when they were getting beat.

Are we going to forget that he declared for the NFL draft, his draft grade was a poop emoji, then he decided to hit the portal?

Look we had receivers that had stone hands and couldn’t catch worth a frick couldn’t get any separation. I’m pretty sure that was frustrating that was one reason two probably the money made in a douche bag probably needs to be said that millions of dollars in a 21-22 year olds wouldn’t make anyone a douchebag, him and kirby probably had a conversation and Kirby probably couldn’t agree. Kirby said bye and he left was there probably a time he probably did still wanna stay at Georgia probably sure but Kirby probably told him you know Hey kick rocks draft probably wasn’t very good last year so going somewhere where the competition isn’t as fierce and would probably help his draft stock. I wish nothing bad for Carson Beck he has been nothing but complimentary toward UGA when asked about it so hats off to the young man
