This is a very odd line of reasoning... I got it to a degree back when Jake was a freshman as well as Andrew Thomas... but at some point, while the "collective talent in Athens" may be rated really highly, you have to remember that there are critical roles that are going to be vacant in 2020 for example.
See: 2016 "composite team talent" vs "actual functional talent" when Kirby arrived.

That doesn't have anything to do with Kirby's leash, which is essentially non-existent right now... but just something worth running through your mind occasionally when you think about what next year's schedule looks like. We rotate Alabama on, we have a (somehow actually good currently) UVA team to open the season, and there is a reasonable cause for a step back in 2020. It may not happen... but anyone who is thinking that it's impossible simply isn't looking at it objectively.

They still haven't figured out that Mullen is only good for an 8-4/9-3 season.

Those are all givens and expected.

Second? It's been three years, so I don't remember. I would ask you, but it's been awhile since Florida has finished second, so you may not remember.

This year? Nothing. Next 5 years? Who knows? UGA is notorious for having given coaches a long leash. Donnan wasn't even fired until he lost 3 in a row to GT and then came on his radio show and said the GT game was meaningless.

Honest, no bullshite answer, thanks

UF on the other hand is notorious for having coaches on a short leash.

If you'll look back on UGA football history, you'll see what I mean.

Dooley was fairly mediocre after 1983, but stayed another 5 years. He was allowed to leave on his own terms, though, because he won a Natty, and because he regularly beat Florida and GT.

Goff got 7 years, and should have been fired after 5.

Donnan got 5 years, and probably would have gotten another year or two had he not made an arse out of himself on his call in show after the third loss in a row to GT. He was recruiting well, just didn't translate to on-field results.

Richt should have been realistically fired after 2011.

The only coach since the early 60s to have been fired after a pretty short tenure was Johnny Griffith, who only got 3 seasons...1961 to 1963.

Even Wally Butts was allowed to stay on after a pretty bad decade from 1950-1960. And it took an alleged game-fixing scandal (later proven to be false) between him and Bear Bryant to get him to step down.

Goff should have never been hired as HC to begin with. There was a damn good reason why a banner was flown over the stadium demanding his firing.

Oh, wow. You said something about Georgia. You scared.

Read that sentence again. Do you see how dumb it sounds now?

Oh, he will. Don't worry about that. I mean, Florida fans were hoping for those same things last year. How did that turn out?

Can't be any worse than Richt's leash, but Kirby better hope no superstar UGA alum of a coach appear on the radar.

That isn’t a problem if you look good on the field.

Again, UF and UGA are 2-2 the last four meetings. 27-3 in 2015 and 24-10 in Smart's first season.

After Smart loses to UF again this year the fans will turn rabid, as SEC fans do normally. Of course I will be very civil watching the implosion. UF posters on this forum wont humiliate you mutts,

I thought Smart should have been fired after letting Florida score in 2017.
