What unicorns at OLB? They return their OLB who weren’t All-SEC picks last season. Do you mean their ILBs?Hate to be a nit-picking prick but for someone who claims to “watch more college football than anyone” you don’t seem to back it up with your extensive knowledge. No offense

Walker played a lot on the edge. HE was a versatile player probably categorized better as edge.

It's a WR room with a lot of athleticism.

I just don't really see the kinda guys a defensive coordinator has to game plan around. Very few forced missed tackles or YAC here in these highlights:

Troy Franklin - LINK

Kris Hutson - LINK

Franklin was a top 50 recruit in 2021 who flashed last year and put on 11 more pounds. You gotta do a little projection. These players are not static.

Thornton will also be a massive problem. He's now well over 200 at 6'5" and ran a legit 4.4 over the winter.

When Cristobal left and the interim staff decided start taking deep shots, the passing game finally looked competent.

Oregon had it's worst qb in probably 30 years.

I am feeling good about Oregon’s offense. Our path to keeping this close is our offense taking advantage of the inexperience on Georgia’s defense.

I keep hearing about how inexperienced our defense is going to be. Who exactly is going to be inexperienced?

Everybody played significant amount of minutes as we do a ton of rotation, particularly across the DLine.

We have Jalen Carter, Robert Beal, Nolan Smith, Kellee Ringo, Christopher Smith, Dan Jackson and William Poole coming back and all started at some point in the season (Some started all year) and all got significant time.

The only people we have coming back that did NOT get a lot of playign time are: Tramel Walthour, Zion Logue, Smael Mondon and Jamon Dumas-Johnson and they got a decent amount of playing time.

I honestly doubt our defense will be any better or worse off than most others, and (just a guess) will be in roughly the same shape as Oregon's defense experience wise.

Did we lose a lot? Absolutely. Will the defense be as good as last years? Absolutely not. Is the defense going to take as big a step back as many on here seem to thing? Doubtful.

I want people to make up their minds.

Was Jordan Davis an overweight space-taker who couldn't be a 3 down lineman? Or was he the linchpin of a generationally elite defense?

He was an outstanding player. He was not the only outstanding DLineman we had, though.

Jalen Carter, Devonte Wyatt and Travon Walker can't be pushed aside and ignored. But watch a little film and you would see that on many occasions Davis ran RBs and QBs down from behind. There is no denying that our DLine lost a lot, but I feel pretty confident that the guys we have coming back will be good. Not great, but still good. (Carter will be great)

You know....we could flip that question on fans on the Rant, too, right? Was Davis a 3 down overweight, Overrated DT, or was he an irreplaceable monster?

I don't think the Georgia defense is going to fall back nearly as much as opponents think and hope. Kirby has always put a pretty good defense on the field and like you said a lot of guys are coming back that got playing time last year.

Take Georgia an lay the points, whatever the spread.

Georgia can fall off a lot and still have a good defense.

Also, I wouldn't touch this game. There is way too much unknown.

Context matters. I was responding to someone that said PAC schools going to central and eastern time zones underperform. Oregon didn't underperform as they covered the spread.

I think you overstated the role of his absences in those games. We can stop the run with or without him on the field.

The difference when he was in on 1st and 2nd down vs when he was out was pretty incredible. He created longer 2nd and 3rd downs when he was in by a wide margin.

There is a stat for this? I think there are better explanations for each of those losses than our run D.

I'm just talking about this year per game. I'll have to find it again.

Oh, I was just talking about those specific games. Mindset, health, and offense were the explanations for them.

He was a DT in a 3-4. He was moved around a lot but majority of snaps were at DT in a 3-4. He played more snaps at NT than at OLB.

Sure. He’s considered an edge/DE in the draft. He played all over for Georgia. You got me.

I think the million dollar question is easy imo… Can you stop 4 elite TE’s on the field at the same time? I’m not sure too many teams can/will. There’s also deep threats with Arian Smith and Ladd Mahonkey. I don’t know much about Oregon tbh. I know they’re pretty talented, but IDK if they’re ready for UGA game 1 with time to prepare. Kirby has been stellar at game 1’s since he got to UGA.

Overstated his absence in games he missed? Lol. Absolutely not.

We can stop the run game without him.
But it will have to be a different strategy. We cant do what we were doing the past 3 years and expect the same results. Just like we couldnt duplicate the same strategy after roquan left.
