2027 four-star quarterback Colton Nussmeier, the younger brother of LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier, has been ruled ineligible for the 2026 Texas high school football season, according to The Dallas Morning News’ Greg Riiddle.
At a DEC hearing on Tuesday, the younger Nussmeier was ruled ineligible for varsity high school football due to transferring for athletic reasons, per the report. Nussmeier recently committed to the Bulldogs earlier this month and competed in the Elite11 passing competition.

Seems like Texas is finally cracking down on this - they just ruled the #1 recruit in the country ineligible too.
Both will end up playing somewhere though.

Guess he can transfer to Buford and then flip to Nebraska on signing day. Seems like a tradition at this point

Sounds more to me like Georgia got in someone's ear about protecting their investment. You must safeguard your high school millionaires!

So glad Kiffin refused to recruit that kid.
A left-handed Nussmeier? Yikes.

At this point, I just read the list after signing day. Half of these guys are going to get bought between now and then anyway

I found another kid who moved from Arkansas to Texas. Now there moving back Arkansas.
Nussmeier can appeal but it's rarely overturned

I would not say "finally" This has been a thing for as long as I remember and I could give you multiple examples. The cliffs: If the former coach does not sign off on the PAPF, you are going to have problems and need to sit for a year. It's called a "365" and most students that transfer sit and wait without playing on the varsity team. It becomes more of a public event when a great athlete who is also a senior will lose his last year of eligibility and can't sit a year. The former coach is holding all the cards.
This is public education only. Private schools (most of them) do not have to follow UIL guidelines. But they are also not able to compete for the public school state championships - which are the best teams in Texas.
Nuss is going to have to go back to his original school or enroll in a private school and play in their playoff system. Texas is the only state that won't allow open recruiting. Does it happen? Yes but it's mostly underclassmen that sit their year and play JV. His parents should have known this was likely going to happen.

I thought LSU should give him a big NIL deal to compensate for playing Garrett hurt

And you know why this ruling will stick and not be overruled by a local judge, because Texas has the following law:
quote:So, you can't have your hometown elected judge ruling on eligibility issues. Congress needs to do the same for the NCAA.
Venue for suits brought against the University Interscholastic League [state agency that runs high school sport] or for suits involving the interpretation or enforcement of the rules or regulations of the University Interscholastic League shall be in Travis County, Texas [county seat, Austin]. When the litigation involves a school district located within Travis County, it shall be heard by a visiting judge.

I think he's set to decide between Texas and A&M soon

His dad works for the Saints so I'd guess he moves to Louisiana.
Or he just moves to play at one of the big private schools, like IMG or something similar.

I think he is talking about John Merideth of North Crowley HS in Dallas who moved from Euless Trinity. He was also ruled ineligible and is announcing his college choice later this week. I also heard he may be going to IMG for his senior year.

Sure, but it's always seemed like it's been selectively enforced until recently. This is the first cycle I can remember where it seems like they are actually cracking down on everyone for it.

I found a comment from the dad.
quote:
Doug Nussmeier testified that the family considered Denton when settling in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (the schools are less than 15 miles apart), and that Colton preferred Ryan to Marcus due to its smaller enrollment (Ryan has 2,142 students to Marcus's 3,004) and its more diverse student body.
“This move was not made for athletic purposes,” Doug said, via the Morning News. “Colton was not recruited, Colton was in good academic standing at Marcus and holds a near 4.0 GPA. He was in good standing with the Marcus football team. He was not unhappy or dissatisfied with Coach Alexander or any of the coaches at Marcus. Colton did not play on a non-school team with Denton Ryan players. Colton did not have a connection of any kind with Denton Ryan’s football coaches.
“This move is not about football, Mike Alexander or the Marcus football team. Our family move is about changes in our family, downsizing and growth opportunities for our son.”

Don’t forget about the guy that moved to Valdosta after his parents “separated”, getting ruled ineligible to play at Valdosta, but then being allowed to play at Buford only to play for a different college each year.
