I gotcha. Didn’t think you were. Guess I was saying more I’ll believe it when I see it in regards to UGA taking that next step outside of games with MSU. Just my dumb opinion haha

And Alabama doesn’t have the elite receivers either this year. Slade had trouble getting separation to me. I think we’re counting on 1 or 2 of these freshman to step up tbh

ea, I was trying to say I just don’t know who you count on other than him. As an opposing fan tbh, none of them worry me.

Yep, and as a more relatable example, Kadarius Toney didn't worry me until 2020. He went from 10 catches in 2019 to a top 5 receiver in the SEC in 2020. All he needed was the opportunity.

Haha true. You’re welcome to bump this thread when Arian Smith drops 150 receiving yards on us in the SECCG haha

How did everyone know who toney was when he only caught 10 balls in 2019. I forgot.

They must have been 10 bad arse plays because I remember worrying about his quick twitch arse before the season

No offense but UGA just does not have the horses to be this explosive elite offense without Pickens. I think your trying to convince yourselves but no where near this:

20 Alabama Waddle and Smith
19 LSU Chase and Jefferson
18 Ross and Higgins
17 Ridley and Fab Four

You will be surprised by Burton and Arian Smith this year to go along with Washington at TE and James Cook at RB.

The breakout performer will be Justin Robinson doing the backshoulder and 50/50 balls that were going to Pickens.

One other general note about Pickens. We all agree he was the most physically gifted guy in UGA's WR room, but let's be honest about the raw production.

36 catches
513 yards
6 TDs

It's not like UGA has to replace a Biletnikoff type season of production here. I do agree that his presence on the field did help to open things up for other WRs too, but in terms of raw numbers, UGA doesn't really need a Herculean effort to reproduce that production.

It isn't readily apparent who may be able to fill that role, if anyone

Justin Robinson.

He will be doing the highlight catches that Pickens had. He isnt an equal talent to Pickens. But he doesnt have to be. Just win those jump balls and backshoulders as necesary. We have talent to get Pickens 100 targets with Burton, Smith, Jackson, (washington/cook) and Blaylock/Rosemy-JackSaint.

Those numbers were more of an indictment of our offense ths 1st half of the season than Pickens and shutting down the passing game vs UK.

Pickens has the capability to dominate games (Baylor,Missouri) and its somewhat silly to base his value off "raw numbers"

Lots of factors played part in those numbers

Garbage.

Fromm went from a very good QB to average in '19 without WR's who left early, were suspended or injured.I lost track but we were down 7 or 8 by the time the SECCG was played.

Cager (out with injury)
Holloman (suspended for season)

Pickens (out 1sf half)
Blaylock (out moat of 3 qtrs)

Also missed Kearis Jackson during the reg season with hand injury.

You can't be plug and play when missing all those parts at a particular posistion.

Well yea if you lose 7 receivers it will have a major impact. We are talking one receiver down and an entire spring and fall practice to prepare for life without him.

Y’all need to get you a Matt and Rhea. Dudes have been awesome in injury prevention so far. Knock on wood.

Bad luck or does UGA have an injury problem

I think both of Blaylocks were non contact and not sure about Pickens and Cager had a ongoing shouldwr issue throughout '19.

Sinclair is a pretty solid S&C guy and Ron Courson is a top notch sports medicine director.

Bad luck more than anything I suppose

Pickens seemed disinterested until Daniels was the QB. Instead of being an asset it was like was just going through the motions.

Not disinterested but our passing strategy did change when Daniels took over IMO.

We took far fewer chances using the middle of the field and threw more fades and sideline routes...which is obviously throwing to Pickens strength.

Or maybe the 6’3 former 5 star made Pickens look better than with the 5’10 walk-on. Who knew?

Only took Kirby 7 games to figure this out.

I'm catching heat from a few on here (not you) but this is essentially all I'm arguing. A program at UGA's level of recruiting ability should be able to have a functional offense with or without Pickens. So yea, the offense may need to adjust but they have the players to do it. So if the offense isn't up to par this season, blame the coaches for not adjusting, not the Pickens injury.

You and I appear to be arguing different things.

Against Cincinnati he was underthrown twice. That game he should have had 100 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. He was that explosive despite coming off surgery to repair a torn meniscus July last year. Unlike last year he will have a full off season to work with the offense.
