Some fail to remember that's the case. He was running to the action, and was less than 7 yds from the runner when the tackle on the runner was made, and he was blocked out of the play. And it was on the Bama sideline hash, so he wasn't going to his bench.
Has anyone ever been penalized for BLOCKING a defender a few yards down field from a ball carrier and heading in that direction?

Okay well when an auburn ball carrier gets loose today, and someone lays out a hard block a few yards in front of him, instead of saying "damn! Awesome block!" I expect you to call for a penalty

Defenseless Player defined in Rule 2-27-14...there are NINE examples.

Is a defender getting in position to make a tackle one of them?

I may very well be wearing my Orange and Blue glasses if that occurs. I was simply correcting yours and other posts. It was a cheap shot and would have been an ejection today and should have been at least a 15 yard penalty then.
All good though. Football is back.

It can be...one example is a player who receives a "blind side block"

The hit was initiated on his front shoulder. He wasn't blindsided.

With that defense? Good luck.

There was lots to not like about that game, but the overall lack of discipline concerns me greatly.

Oh, you think that's the defense you're going to see?

I'd be concerned about that awful defensive front considering in two weeks you have to play the best power running team of this era

Yeah, there's that. But that was embarrassing. Not that our defense wasn't good minus 6, but our dumbass QB has now brought his dumbassedness into the season, which he didn't do last year. I was surprised he didn't get a penalty the first time he pulled that crap. It ended on a good note with Sumlin's interview, though. No coach-speak there. The man is definitely earning his paycheck this year.
