Wouldn't surprise me if he winds up at Duke since they just let Cutt go.

Jacksonville Jaguars OC makes the most sense, right? There’s the Urban Meyer connection, Mullen would be a major upgrade as OC over Bevell, and Jacksonville’s so close to Gainesville that he won’t even have to relocate his family.

David made millions off Duke with zero pressure (14 years).

Anyone hear anything ab what's in his immediate future? Are there any schools pursuing him or is he the next reboot project for Saban and Bama assuming Obrien leaves?

His reputation took a huge hit in three areas:

1. Running a big time program
2. Offensive play calling seems hit and miss
3. QB development is really, really bad.

Several things pushed him out earlier than normal.

1. recruiting violation
2. Dressing up like Darth Vader at press conference
3. Fight at Ole Miss(?) and being in the middle of that
4. Comments about season being over before bowl game
5. Leveraging NFL for raises. Worked at MState, not Florida. That was a nail in his coffin.

Florida doesn't put up with that crap. He got away with it longer than some would because he won last year. But being fired was inevitable to happen once he began to struggle.

They were going to gladly put up with it. For the sole reason that he wasnt mcelwain.

The AD screwed the pooch by firing grantham mid-season. That lost the team. And losing the team lost mullen.

(Grantham should have been fired last offseason. But firing midyear was idiotic with a cast of transfers as team leaders. The collapse was inevitable).

Mullen instigated the big fight in the Missouri game in 2020.

True.

Duke's football expectations are typically lower than MSU's and definitely Florida's. I am not really tuned into the North Carolina football scene, but I wonder how much Wake, UNC, and NCSU recent success raised Duke's expectations.

I forgot about that show cause.

Yeah, he isn't getting hired by anyone until that is over on Dec. 22nd, which means he cannot recruit for ESD.

Not that he’d bother.

Kirby could use another analysist to wash his F150. They don't clean themselves.

Kirby has been trying to copy his Daddy Saban for years. First Saban has analysts and Kirby was like "I gotta get me some of those".

So? Saban could likely go down as the greatest CFB coach in history. He is already in the discussion for it and says he will coach for 10 more years.

Why wouldn't anyone want to emulate that successful model? Tomlin was an assistant for Tony Dungy and John Gruden. Belichick worked for Bill Parcels. If you don't take positive things from your boss and apply them to your own career, you are probably one of the sun burned guys working his 4th stint at an Alvin's Island.

Mullen will be washing Bobo's F-150 after Bobo gets the analyst gig at UGA. Our analysts have their own analysts.

Destined to forever be an OC

It's where he is best, honestly.

He's way too awkward to be the face of a program. He's obviously not that great on the recruiting trail. Just let him gameplan, coach QBs and call plays and he's good.

Ah! Missouri! I couldn't remember who it was. For some reason Ole miss popped into my empty little head.

Y'all will be much better off without Mullen. Napier was a good hire.

I mean he was a successful SEC head coach for over a decade so his career is far from over. I always thought he might end up in the NFL just because he clearly doesn't like recruiting.

He could have stayed at State and won 6 to 8 games forever and been considered a legend. The problem is his ego is too big to settle for a job like that long term.

This is the correct answer. Mullen always thinks he knows more than anyone else in the room. Probably why he was lackadaisical in his approach to recruiting…he felt that he could take whatever he got and win championships.
