It didn’t matter who he hired. Fulmer wants this to be a shitshow. His intent all along is to wait for the dumpster fire under the new coach to hit its peak then come walking in like a savior as coach again. Pruitt was set up to fail.

Johnny Majors agrees with this.

I don’t buy it. He’s 68 years old. Maybe he’s that arrogant to think he can come in as an old man and resurrect the program as the head coach.

I think it’s more likely that he wants Pruitt to fail so he can hire his own guy. Probably someone from his coaching tree.

Wouldn't surprise anyone to see Phat Phil step-in sometime and take over interim coaching duties ... maybe next year.

What's problematic is that most Tennessee fans would probably welcome it.

Phat Phil is the devil. Why are Vol fans blind to this notion? It's like they have sold their souls to this guy.

This is exactly how the ACA was set up.

ACA = Pruitt
Democratic Socialists = Fulmer
American People = Tennessee Fans

Yeah ... a heart attack, recovery, then returning and losing to SC after Phat Phil has three weeks to poison the water.

Johnny Majors definitely had it coming.

Is it bad if I don’t know who Fulmer is? Must’ve been before my time

Again, your memory is failing you in your old age.

Fulmer had them undefeated with back to back wins over #14 Georgia and #4 Florida. Majors rushed back way too soon even tho his right hand man of over 10 years had under control all because of Johnny’s massive ego.

He came back and lost three straight to Arkansas, Alabama, and South Carolina in October. The locker room became very divided with many players threatening to transfer. Tennessee fans were calling for Fulmer to replace Majors permanently, which is when he publicly called them the “legions of the miserable”, pissing them off even further

Yep, I used to tease Tennessee fans Phil was coming back but now I mean it seriously. I see a few in here remember what he did to Majors and I guarantee you he won't hesitate to do it to Pruitt.

Then you haven't been paying attention to the SEC during the last 25+ years. I think Fulmer is arrogant enough to appoint himself head coach at some point.

I have a friend who is a dyed-in-the-wool Tennessee fan who hated Fulmer for 25 years for backstabbing Majors. When the Fulmer-as-AD coup was pulled off last year, he resigned himself into thinking at least Fulmer loves Tennessee and that maybe this would eventually be a good thing.

It's almost as if they have Stockholm Syndrome at this point.

I ignored posts espousing this theory but now I'm a believer. Schiano would have been a great fit but he gets screwed only to hire a career DC? Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see Fulmer back as head coach.

but deciding not to hire Schiano was at least reasonable. It was stabbing the AD in the back and reneging on the Mike Leach deal that convinced me that Fulmer wanted to run the program (into the ground) again.

Foolmer is known primarily for three things:

1. Stabbing Johnny Majors in the back
2. Ratting out Alabama like a whiney prison bitch
3. Driving the Krispy Kreme corporation to new stratospheric profit levels.

He won a few games at TN but that's sort of secondary in my book.
