Don’t understand how you can lock out one of the three undefeated P5 teams, or how you can punish a team for their QB being injured. This is a head scratcher.

Hurt QB was not the deciding factor.

Both are bad situations

I’m sure the AU debacle led to creating a metric with the flexibility to justify whatever decision had to be made.

The problem with 2004 is that there wasn’t much of a framework you could point to to justify leaving AU out.

I can. In 2023 the ACC was the worst power conference and Florida State played a very weak schedule. Absence auto-bids for top conference champions, you've got to make a judgement call and starting QB availability and recent performance without him enters the equation.

"Just winning the games is all that matters" is a deeply unserious position. If that were true, Auburn should leave the SEC and go beat up on tomato cans in the Sun Belt or American.

USC would have boat raced that Auburn team.

Also, FSU has a bigger argument. There were 3 undefeated P5 teams in 2004 and two available spots. There are 3 undefeated P5 teams and four available spots this year.

You lost at home by double digits

There is no excuse for it and should be an auto disqualifier

There is no way of knowing that.

Everyone points to USC winning the prior 2 years but Auburn was mediocre to decent. 2004 was a great Auburn team.

USC had a few close calls with Va Tech, Stanford, UCLA…

Has AU kept the people's national champion domain name up to date?

Auburn is the 2004 national champion. Especially after USC had to void theirs.

Against the #3 team in the final CFP poll in the 2nd week of season. Y'all folks are deeply unserious. Just say "I hate Alabama" and stop trying to make these moronic arguments.

The CFP made the 100% correct decision. An undefeated SEC champion will never have this problem because the SEC is routinely one of the better power conferences and not one of the worst. And don't even bother posting the ACC's record against trash SEC East teams and the 3rd place team in the SEC West. They're not a good conference. FSU needs to join the SEC at their earliest convenience to avoid this fate. An undefeated ACC champion without their starting QB doesn't deserve the field most years if their OOC slate is weak.

It's not about a hurt QB. It's about bigger brands being favored over smaller brands.

Same reason Ohio State got in with 6 crap-arse wins over cupcakes over A&M with 9 wins over SEC teams in 2020.

College football is not a legitimate sport, and won't be as long as it relies on polls and committees rather than tangible on-field results. Enjoy the games, care less about the post season. Accept it's imaginary and it gets easier.
