Foley and the powers that be at UF in 90-91 vowed FSU would never get in.
Ask him. He's been open about it. Once FSU turned down their chance .... it was over with UF.
And there's even more to FSU's "renegrade years" in the 50s and 60s ..... especially just before and when Bowden arrived. UF was totally against it.
"Trust me, bro."
Just because y'all are scared of Clemson joining the SEC doesn't mean we feel the same way about FSU.

The SEC has plenty of experience with in-state schools.

Put your thinking caps on. Vanderbilt is fine.
SEC should add FSU, Miami, Clemson, Ga Tech, Ok St and toss Vandy down to FCS.

Watering down the conference
Clemson is a better football product than usce, and fsu while not superior to uf is easily on par and would walk in the sec ahead of half conference. Your point about ok state and gt stands though

Ohhhh frick off you dumb ignorant jort wearing cock gobbling frick.
And I ain't your fricking bro, boy.
I interviewed Jeremy in 2003 before a Gators/Gamecocks basketball game in the new Carolina Center, with Mike McGee sitting there with us at the table.
Foley had been tasked with walking SC through the entry process in 91-92 by Kramer and Arnsparger before replacing Arnsparger.
UF WAS NOT supportive of FSU joining the conference at the time and never will be again. FSU was cheating so badly by 92 and clean through ALL of the Bowden years, that UF felt there was a double standard given the licks they took for the Charlie Pell and Galen Hall recruiting scandals .... and rightfully so. Because, while (at the time) The Tallahassee Democrat had mercilessly pursued the Gators in the 80s, they had completely turned a blind eye to St Bobby since the 70s and by the early 90s there was a full blown war going on behind the scenes that also included Thug U down in Miami .... all over recruiting.
The Florida Gators rose above it under Foley and became the class of the three, but the bad blood was born and has remained.
Foley flat out said, and Mike McGee confirmed with a "that'll never happen," ... FSU and Clemson will not be invited back to join the conference as long as the pact stood among UF, UGA, SC, KY and Tennessee. Tennessee had no real in state ACC rival dog in the fight, as did the others but ..... Johnny Majors hated Clemson with all his fiber as did a lot of the Tennessee hierarchy after the fallout from the late 70s exposé by ABC News regarding UT and Clemson caught cheating over two Knoxville HS ballplayers.
So listen. This is it. I'm not wasting anymore time trying to explain or reason the actual facts .... or play nice trying to show you the errors of your ways and claims. I'm too old and I don't gaf from this point forward. It really doesn't matter except ... you're just fricking wrong.

That makes more sense than anything .... by far.
Problem is two-fold.
1 - Breaking out of the ACC contract.
2 - ND has insisted staying independent.
But who knows what might happen.
BIG 20 .... it's not impossible.
The SEC should stick at 16 and then continue to dominate on every level. Dominate EV ERRRR REEEE thing. Dominate tiddly winks and checkers.
The population of the SEC footprint is booming.
If the B1G became the BIG 20 with the addition of those four ..... then and only then should the SEC reach out and grab UNC and UVA ..... and then either Duke and NC State or NC State and Va Tech.
BIG 20 and SEC 20 .... that would bring expansion to an end.
Of course, it would leave Duke or Va Tech in the lurch.
But none of that is happening anytime soon and, even then, only IF Clemson, FSU and Miami manage to break away and blow up the current ACC.
Clemson, nor FSU, will not ever be members of the SEC.
The SEC is missing two flagship universities from the old South/Confederate States .... UNC and UVA.
The SEC boasts the flagship universities from every old CSA state EXCEPT NC and VA.
No matter what the B1G does ... they'll NEVER be able to claim a flagship university in The South.

If our overlords want us to take them, we take them.

This is all silly talk. Due to legal reasons, no conference can discuss publicly or privately taking schools from the ACC or any other conference.
Once Clemson, FSU, UNC, VaTech are out of the ACC, then the SEC, Disney Lawyers will talk.
And most importantly, none of this means squat for the fans.
Money? Why are you worried how much money the SEC makes. I’m not. Doesn’t affect me in the slightest.
I own my big screen.
I own my refrigerator
I own my easy chair.
I own my grill
I own my house

That state is 3 times the size of most states. It delivers a huge fan base, FSU is nothing but Bobby Bowden's dirty diaper, plus they rejected the SEC in favor of the ACC, so they made their bed, let them lie.
P.S. thing not in their favor may have been attacking everyone who stated they did not belong in the SEC, that was juvenile and embarrassing.

It is all about eyeballs on TV screens. Does FSU and/or Clemson bring more eyeballs and consequently more TV dollars to make them worth more than the TV money payout to them by the SEC. I am not sure either one qualifies.
The big prize the SEC and big ten is looking at is UNC. A flagship university in a top ten state, population-wise.
The big ten picked up four teams from the west coast. People on the west coast don't watch college football. I can't say I understand what they did.

Someone has to finish in the bottom half of the conference. Take the top10 teams in the country, put them in a conference and one of them is going to finish in last place.

Take any conference in America and half the teams have to finish in the bottom half. That’s kinda the deal
