I think it is due to hubris. Freeze is so narcissistic that he truly believes it is all the player’s fault and he shoulders none of the blame. He truly believes he is doing a great job, it’s just that his players suck. He is incapable of grasping that he is the one responsible for the players on the team. You see it all the time, people so overconfident in themselves they convince others. These people find themselves falling upwards. Until they run out of people to blame.

Please find a post from me that says that about any other Auburn coach and post it.
Now I have said that all of Auburn’s recent coaches were flawed and their records reflect it. But it was for a wide range of reasons. Harsin was a bad fit culturally and undercut by certain boosters and admins. Gus was too stubborn to adapt and change plus he was bad at developing players. Chizik was a poor x’s and o’s coach who despite this struck gold with Cam Newton. Tommy Tuberville was a good coach, just an a-hole who benefitted greatly from Alabama probation. The Auburn administration shouldn’t have panicked over Nick Saban and run him off. Like always they were simply trying to keep up with Alabama, even though they had just come off of “fear the thumb”.. That attitude and decision making process is what has Auburn in the mess they are in now.

Alabama being hammered by the NCAA gave auburn a false sense of belonging and thinking they were a top tier school. They've spent the last 20 years beating their heads in the wall not realizing the truth of the situation.

Again.....more fake passive disinterest that magically appears during a bad year. They pretend they don't care and that AU football doesn't affect them so it doesn't hurt. But in a good year it is FAMILY, ALL IN, and every fan matters to the program.
