One thing that hasn't been mentioned ...

Alabama neutralized Mathieu and Mingo. Those two guys were really the playmaking engines of LSUs team. We would get negative plays and turnovers, and turn those into points.

Bama literally played the perfect game. It was artful, even.

I honestly dont think lsu gets a rematch. I think being able to get a rematch while losing your own conference and division is for a select few schools only.

I think if the 3rd team was USC or Michigan then you are right.

I do think Oklahoma State being Oklahoma State hurt them, fair or not, and LSU would have gotten the benefit of the doubt over them too. Partly because LSU > Oklahoma State in the CFB hierarchy but also because LSU was so incredibly loaded with talent and that seeps into people's brains.

And, because whether it was fair or not (it was), Oklahoma State lost to a shitty Iowa State team and LSU would have had a 3 point road loss to Alabama (and their wins at WVU and Oregon).

But, we'll never know.

Yea - that was the biggest difference. Even the first game turned on LSU's defense sparking their offense (even if the spark was just a FG or not letting us score while in LSU territory). Those two plays were the difference in the game.

It sounded easy to say "just don't let their ST or Defense beat you", but the same could be said about Alabama in 2015/2016. Much easier said than done. It took complete concentration and great execution to not let those LSU defenders take the ball and score/set up the offense to score.

I know a former starter on the 2011 team and he refuses to even talk about that game or what led up to it.

Bama only had 56 more yards....

LSU caught the biggest break of the game when the refs failed to rightfully award a co-reception to the offensive player inside the LSU five.

Yeah, I sound like a LSU fan now.

I can absolutely understand why LSU fans hated and still hate it. We would have hated it if the roles had been reversed, for sure. But none of that means Bama didn’t deserve it.

I think this is it in a nutshell. A previous poster laid out two very good arguments for and against Bama being in the game. But if you analyse it logically, if the goal is to get the two best teams in the final game, you can't argue with the two that were selected. I think playing that extra game made it unfair for LSU, but life isn't always fair. The bigger point is that I think LSU fans knew that Bama was the only team that could beat us and ruin what could have been one of the greatest football seasons ever in College Football history. It wouldn't have mattered who we played if we had won, but we didn't...so alas, all we're left with is memories of what could have been.

Just like LSU didn't deserve to play for it in 07.

Our issue isn't that you didn't deserve the title, just how you got there is what rubs LSU nation the wrong way. We were clearly dominated in that game.

Tell me more about putting an 11-1 team with a weaker SOS, worse loss, and worse best win deserves to be another 11-1 team

Why not include that one was a conference champion, and one wasn't?

SO if we only had 56 less yards, we must have moved the ball pretty well somewhere on the field right?

Well, your D played great all game. You picked off McCarron at like the 25 and returned it to the 15. You then had a 2 yard drive that resulted in 3 points as you made a 30 yd FG. You then got the ball in OT at the 25 and moved 17 yards to the 8 where you kicked a 25 yd FG.

You had two drives for a total of 19 yards that resulted in 6 points. In that game that made all the difference. Your D played its tail off.

Because when the teams have the same record it in no way, shape, or form changes your actual resume.

If I were an employer I wouldn’t hire the worse candidate simply because they received some award that the better candidate didn’t
