Jacobs:
-second job ever outside of auburn
- ran off a swim coach that won something like 13 or 14 straight NCs in men's and women's
- hired Jeff Lebo who wasn't a great bball coach and replaced him with Tony's barbee who was a terrible basketball coach and one of the worse human beings to ever step foot on that campus
- fired Tom slater to hire John pawlowski to fire him and hire Sonny Golloway, who was such a bad person that Oklahoma was trying to push him out after he made the World Series.
- has the negotiating prowess of a 3 year old. If a coach wins a game and raises an eyebrow he gets an extension
- oversaw an athletic dept with more underqualified and overtitled people that had no role or no role that was needed, but were there under good ole boy rules. Our AD fired 6 of these this week, and they won't be the last
- was the AD when our softball and women's basketball programs went into some disgusting off field and court stuff, and probably helped cover things up and definitely didn't fire some guilty parties
-oversaw a crooked ticketing dept ultimately

Other than that, he did a good job for us and will probably be fine for you Florida

Thats a lot of reaching right there. Now do the good things that he brought to Auburn

And here is the good stuff, since Lanier asked
- hired Bruce Pearl
- hired Butch Thompson (after whiffing on two other hires)
- natty and a natty appearance in football
- built a giant TV in Jordan hare
- built a new football complex or renovated ours, which our HC is actively trying to upgrade again because of arms races
- updated athletic dorms
- nailed a softball coaching hire (who ultimately was fired due to off-field stuff)
- built a great Arena for basketball
- hired a good gymnastics coach
- I felt like outside a few sports he always pushed to give coaches the resources as far as money to staff build
- hired a good golf coach recently

I Also forgot the time when our assistant basketball coach was fired due to a FBI investigation involving agents and paying players

So if Jacobs is to blame for that and he is to be fired, why are we keeping Pearl and giving him a extension. Kinda hypocritical dont you think

Lets also give him Auburns first Football Natty in 50 years and lets face it, it could have been 3. 2004, 2010 and 2013.

If you are going to ding him for the basketball FBI investigation, you have to give him credit for the 2010 total colonoscopy by the NCAA which showed not even one single itty bitty issue. Clean program

Like I have said for years. Auburn fans have some very selective sight when it comes to Jacobs and the program. Same with Gus. All the bad stuff is his fault but the good things get overlooked

Jacobs ran off the best coach, in any sport, over piddly shite. (S&D)

Our facilities, for the most part, are lagging behind.

JJ was nothing but a puppet. He was a glorified ticket seller. Basically that is exactly what UF hired him to do.

Hopefully we now have an AD who answers only to himself.....and has the intelligence to run an entire athletic dept.

So you are upset that our swimming and diving program has declined but not happy that our football program is doing better than ever an that our basketball program is on a huge rise while the baseball team is going tot he supers for the first time in 20 years?

Didnt know people loved swimming and diving that much.

The reason that AU will now have consensus on the stadium upgrades and will suddenly recruit better in all sports has nothing to do with Jacobs.

Fact of the matter is, Pearl had to survive an investigation, and it wasn't because everything was up and up. Just because Jacobs may not have known, it still happened while he was AD.
You speak about selective memory but have made no mention of softball or basketball, and you are giving Jacobs credit for baseball and basketball, which he completely deserves. He also deserves a good deal of the blame for the 10-14 year funk in both sports that saw him whiffing on multiple hires before finally getting the right one.

He also nailed the malzahn hire and football is in great shape. Jacobs shouldn't have been our AD in 04, and finally grew into the job after really struggling with things for awhile. Right when he grew into it we had coaches screwing players and our administration willfully did nothing, and there is evidence we helped cover it up. Then women's basketball, then the person thing.

Jacobs catches too much flack from some, and takes too much blame from others. He railroaded some programs. He did some well. He ran off our best coach, hired some awful ones, and then really started nailing his hires at the end of his tenure.

All of those things are true and should be taken into account when looking at his time, and none of what is said about him isn't fair. He wasn't a great AD. He wasn't abysmal, but he really had times he struggled. if you really look at auburn today vs when he took over, it is hard to say he left it in a better spot.
-football is better, but tubs had it rolling in 04 as well. The natty makes it better for sure
- basketball is better due to arena, but the year before Jacobs became AD was our last in the tourney.
- baseball making its first back to back tourney appearance since 02-03, and Jacobs was hired in 04

This is like arguing that Bama football will now suck because Nick Saban hired Butch Jones. I think we will be OK.

I am very happy about that. The real truth is........JJ had no hand in the hiring of Gus and Bruce. I have no idea about Butch. That may have been JJ's call.

Actually, its easy to say. He left us in a much better spot than we were in 2005. In almost every sports. Well other than swimming and diving which it seems to some auburn fans, its the most important.

How many programs in the SEC are better off right now than Auburn when you consider all the major sports?

Damn boys -- take it easy. Jay got a job out of Lee County -- let it go. If you don't like him -- then UF can deal with it. If you do like him, then good for him.
Move on

Condolences, Gators

The difference between getting a bargain or getting ripped off all depends on how much you pay. That said, I hope he was a bargain.

Even better, I hope AU is still having to pay him contractually.

Did we just become best friends?

He ran AU's entire athletic department. He's running your ticket office it seems.
