He was an outstanding coach, but he’s an even better man. To begin to name all of the things that he has done for special needs children would fill up more words that I can give in hours. I don’t often recommend books, but I would encourage anyone and everyone to read Another Season, which is a story about Coach Stallings and his son, John Mark, and their journey through life together.
I hope APT/PBS have something in the works for coach Stallings similar to what they did with Pat Dye. That was a very well done documentary, and they could do the same with Stallings.
If you haven't seen the Pat Dye doc it is Mighty: The Life and Legacy of Pat Dye. I believe it is on the APT/PBS website.

Langham took $400 from an agent. Alabama got hammered over that.
And he didn't come clean to Stallings and Alabama until a week before the SEC Championship Game. Rumors had been swirling around him but when Stallings confronted him about these rumors earlier that year, Langham denied them and assured Stallings that everything was on the up-and-up. You can't fault a coach for believing his player.
Where Stallings screwed up was with his lack of cooperation with the NCAA when the scandal broke. He lost his cool with the investigators and kicked them out of the building. It wasn't exactly his finest hour.

Happy Birthday to a great man! He and I are from the same small town here in Texas.

I reckon there is a short list of SEC football coaches that seem to be collectively adored by the entire conference and Coach Stallings is on that list. Definitely don’t make them like they used to.

Look how he dressed for games compared to the way modern day slob head coaches dress.
I see what you did there and appreciate it.

Hootie Ingram is to blame. Only the NCAA would think a coach can keep with every second of a players life in the off season.

One of the finest human beings ever to draw breath on this planet.

My mother was Tennessee through and through, and hated Alabama.
Coach Stallings was a different story. She met Coach, his wife and his late son John Mark several times at religious (Church of Christ) gatherings where he would be speaking or just in attendance.
My mother would rip into you in a heartbeat, if you said anything negative about Gene Stallings. He is a true man of God, and is rock solid in character and integrity.

Great man and Coach. Bama’s stupid AD Bockrath (or whatever his name was) totally screwed up. Gave Stallings a hard time outside the locker room after State beat Bama 17-16 in 1996. Stallings said I don’t have to listen to this crap and said I am out of here at the end of the season.
Sent Bama into a tailspin that lasted until Saban came on board in 2007.
One of the few living members of the 1954 Junction Boys Team.
He has always been one of my favorites.
The 1992 win over Miami in the Sugar Bowl is one of the all time great wins for Bama and the SEC in general.
