I've been to all of the college campus's/cities of the SEC except for College Station, so I'm only ranking 13 of these. For those of you who have been to College Station, where would you rank it and why?
1) Nashville
Why? It's Nashville. Plenty to do there and Broadway Street is amazing. Vandy's campus is pretty nice as well, even if it's small.
2) Columbia, SC
The campus is pretty decent. Downtown Columbia is nice. The Cabooses and the gameday atmosphere is pretty awesome.
3) Fayetteville
Very nice downtown. Great atmosphere and very pretty campus with the rolling hills of the Ozarks.
4) Knoxville
I like Tennessee's campus with the river also right there. Downtown Knoxville is fairly nice as well and there's plenty to do.
5) Auburn
Although Auburn doesn't have much of a downtown, it's set up is pretty nice. A lot of stuff seems to be new. The campus is nice and the tailgating there is great. Not much of a bar scene, though.
6) Tuscaloosa
University Blvd is pretty nice. From the quad and campus to the bars, it's a great little area for a gameday.
7) Oxford
Oxford doesn't have much of a downtown, but the campus was pretty nice. The Grove and the very nice people make this place probably the most welcoming in the SEC.
8) Athens
Downtown Athens is probably one of the nicest in the SEC that's not in a big city. Countless bars. Their campus is ugly, though. I need to hit this up for a football game-- perhaps that'll help me boost this up the list.
9) Gainesville
Gainesville is pretty spread out. Our campus is very nice, but the bar scene and where people tailgate are all over the place. Unless you're right next to campus, you do have to Uber/Drive to get to get a true sense of the city.
10) Columbia, MO
Fairly decent set up. Downtown is a little hike from the Campus/stadium, but it's a nice little downtown. Outside of that it gets pretty shady, though.
11) Lexington
Downtown Lexington has some good areas, but it feels far from campus. If you're attending a basketball game, it's great, since Rupp Arena is downtown.
12) Starkville
Starkville is in the middle of no where. Downtown is not much to speak of, so most activity is on campus. Campus seems decent enough, but it just feels so desolate when you're there.
13) Baton Rouge
Crime central. 'Nuff said.

You don't enjoy your experience in Baton Rouge? Legit question.

I enjoy myself at all of these places.
I've gone to Baton Rouge I think 5 times now. I enjoy myself, but I still don't like the city. I ventured around town once and just felt unsafe the entire time. I mostly stick to the stadium area when I am there, but I have walked around a fair amount of the campus. The campus is nice, but the crime just outweighs everything.

Of the ones I've been to (Columbia, Columbia, Tuscaloosa, Starkville, Baton Rouge) your order is spot on.
If I had to guess based on your descriptions, Cstat probably comes in at number 5 ahead of Auburn.

You walked through the south campus area with ugly buildings from 50's and 60's.
Walk from town to stadium and back, you see the older greek revival buildings, oak trees and quads and such.
What you basically did is bought a cheap parking pass in the shitty part of campus and never ventured around.

Free parking. It was pretty shitty weather to just walk around campus in.
That's why I said that. I also said I will give it another chance for a football game, as I am sure the atmosphere is much different.
Don't sweat it, buddy.

Definitely need to make a trip out to College Station. That was a fun trip. So far I've been to Athens, Knoxville, Lexington, Auburn, Oxford, Baton Rouge, Tuscaloosa, and College Station . Hoping to make Columbia, MO this year.

Where did you go, NBR? There are plenty of perfectly safe and fun places in town. I’m not saying we deserve top spot or even top half, but BR definitely isn’t deserving of dead last. It beats the pants off of Starkville in every aspect and has as nice a campus as most on the list.

I know. I wish we didn't have such a gap in when we play there again. I regret not going to College Station in 2012. I don't think we return until 2022. So much bullshite with that.

Downtown, north of campus, from what I remember. I never really feel unsafe when I am somewhere, but that time I did. It's like going 5 blocks away from Bourbon street, gets shady very quickly.
I'm sure there are very nice parts of Baton Rouge, as there are nice areas everywhere. And I said I do like the campus, but that one experience was enough for me to not like Baton Rouge for life.

Were you mugged or raped while in Baton Rouge?

People who have been to Gainesville and willingly return have absolutely no right to rank college towns in any order

Every single census designated area of the United States is better than Baton Rouge.

I find his description of Gainesville actually applies to Baton Rouge.
BTW, Gainesville sucks.
