Gainesville, FL = Valdosta, GA. They're just an hour and 45 minutes apart on I75.

Surprised someone knows that fact. Are you from the S. Ga. area?

So if Georgia provides better employment opportunities than MS and LA, doesn’t that make Georgia a better place to live?

At the end of the day, your ability to provide for your family is paramount.

How many people from states other than Georgia do you think are looking at US news and saying: "Hey babe, we should really move to Alpharetta, Georgia because it's rated in the top 25?"

Probably anyone who has looked at a map and is looking to move to an Atlanta suburb.

Just like with Marietta, Norcross, Lawrenceville, Snellville or Lithonia.

The suburbs North and East of Atlanta have been huge draws for the last 30 years.

You mean they wouldn't choose to live there because of the US News ranking?

Let's not think of Gainesville Florida the same as coastal Florida.

As a Floridian living in rural heartland Florida, I am so damn glad I don't live in a coastal area that has been plagued with Yankee infidels and concrete.

True, Gainesville is a small city in a rural area, but so is Oxford.

Where I live in Florida on the coast, sure.

Gainesville? Not so much.

Although we don't have an income tax, the laws are reasonable and the police do their jobs. So that's a big bonus over other states.

So yeah, I'd probably pick to live there over the others even though it's not quite the coast.

Cant disagree. After all Nick Saban, Bear Bryant, Tom Osbourne and so on all hung their hats in the friendly atmosphere of beach front martinis and scantily dressed womens.

Gainesville is not a small rural town like Oxford.

This is the reason why northerners stay on the coasts in Florida. Can’t blame them. They’ll pay the extra money to be in the nicer parts of the state.

There’s Florida, and then there’s Gainesville.

It’s not Sarasota or West Palm. It’s a shite hole town with a fair amount of crime. Nowhere near a beach. Closest thing is the STD field Villages.

Oxford is way better

True, though still way closer than Oxford, MS.

True, in a sense, but what place are you referring to? Cedar Key? There’s not really a town from Tallahassee to Crystal River.

Yep. Making improvements is easy when they’re at the bottom.

No, the exact opposite. $100,000 a year goes a lot further in Mississippi than the Atlanta metro.

Atlanta is a shitstain on the south.

I have been to the Olympics, World Series, Super Bowl, MLB Allstar game, CFP Championship Game, SECCG (multiple times), Final Four, and the Masters (obviously in Augusta but close) because I live in Atlanta.

Plus 100k doesn’t go far anywhere in America these days.
