1. Try to compete the best you can
2. Get lots of reps for any guys ready to play
3. Evaluate depth with game reps
4. Extend injury recovery to prepare for next year
5. Experiment with formations, blitz packages, trick plays, personnel.
What else can be accomplished? Maybe develop young coaches with more game planning responsibilities.

Auburn is not out of Hunt.
Beat Alabama and Texas A and M
Alabama lose again
and you going to SEC Championship :) Very unlikely, but Trying to give you a hope.

Actual #1.
Beat someone you shouldn't

Not that it would really matter, but the optics would be so much better if we had beaten USCe. (Of course we lost to Arkie, so it balances out).
Still if Auburn was 6-1, the Iron Bowl would be getting a lot more hype.

Do I have to explain the point of the Iron Bowl to you? Seriously?

Considering Mississippi State has only been in the hunt a few times in my lifetime, I have been there most years.
I think players that quit or don't play as hard as they can have regrets. You play for yourself and represent not only you but your teammates every damn play. Mailing it in could never be an option for me.
As a fan in these types of years, I just want to see effort and some progression to give me hope there can be success in the future. My team gave me that this past weekend in a loss to GA.
Some say no morale victories but when you have not been competing and you see the changes happening, it can give you hope for a brighter future where before this past weekend, I was digging to find the silver lining.

For Auburn, beating Alabama this year would be bigger than last IMO.
Chances of the SECW aside (hadn't even considered it), it would be a genuine rivalry upset and prime shite talking material. Last year a lot of us expected to win considering the circumstances.
All that said, I don't think it's likely.
For Auburn, we're so poor year-to-year on the continuity front that it's hard to go through the same motions every year expecting there to be a multi-year upswing. But if we play well with Alabama and then win out (including a big win over A&M) and win a bowl game, that would be a nice change. We haven't finished the year on a multi game high note since 2013 (not counting FSU). If not 2013, it's been 10 years since we closed strong.
