They even award a state champ trophy for Florida, though recent history is sparse since UF and Miami only play each other sporadically.

It is a rivalry. It’s just not as big of a rivalry as FSU vs UF, UGA vs UF, nor Miami vs FSU.

This. Not as big a rivalry as LSU, mind you, but big.

It is a rivalry.
It's still a big rivalry. Bigger than FSU but not as big as UGA in its heyday before it ended in 1987.
Imo, this game should always be played.

I miss playing them every year. I also miss playing Auburn every year. Those were fun rivalries for different reasons.

The Tennessee "rivalry" was short-lived. That can go.

Before Schnellenberger went to Miami to coach you got 4 FREE Miami football tickets (decent seats) when you bought a Whopper at Burger King. I am not making this up. That is how bad Miami football was historically.

Looks like Miami football is trying to come full circle:

Because Miami and FSU were the IT game in the 80s and early 90s prior to Spurrier building UF.

If you weren't around for those games they were electric.

.

UF v Miami used to play every year until 1988. Afterwards it's a 2on 5off schedule. SOS wanted to add Miami back yearly
but the SEC went to an 8 game schedule during the era that the season was only 11 games. SOS backed off starting that playing 8 SEC games, FSU and Miami left only one OOC game.

Florida (the state) sucked at football before Charlie Pell got to the Gators. All 3 schools improved greatly with the arrival of the "Cocaine Cowboys" in the late 70's and early 80's.

I mean yea it’s hard for Miami to get fans unless they are real good.

If you took Nashville out of the SEC picture there is more to do in Miami than all SEC cities combined. Most SEC towns have very little to do besides their college sports. That’s not Miami

Tearing down the Orange Bowl and relocating "home" games to Hard Rock in Miami Gardens doesn't help either.

That stadium is a pretty good hike from the Miami campus.

They used to get into huge fights before the game ever started back in the 80s and 90s

Easy wins are the reason why others don't want back on it.
