This is why Florida is still struggling. Recruiting is all about ability to pay players now, it’s closer to the NFL than it was in 2005. Players choose where they are going based on the pay and the opportunity to play.

OM will always be in delusion they are the better football program, just b/c they have had a few better years than FL lately. They have very short term memory since their past is abysmal. Well, here is a fact, just incase you Rebs forgot....you have never even made it to ATLANTA! You have one baseball natty, and FL has a plethora of them in baseball, football and basketball. Get your heads out of your arse Rebs and I don't give a crap about what dumb show comes out tonight about Lane. It would be so WAOM if that show comes out tonight and then Lane says see ya for FL lol. Please make it happen Florida

How the hell is he Dan Mullen? Please explain. Would love to hear how Lane and Dan are alike..note if includes most offensively minded coaches...not a very good argument.

Um….basketball is still wholly irrelevant to the discussion. He wasn’t referring to your entire athletic department.

There really is no comparison between the two programs. Dan Mullen took UF to Atlanta and more big bowl games than Lane has with Ole Miss. Mac took UF to Atlanta more than Ole Miss has been in its history. Muschamp won 11 games at UF, matching Lane's best record. All the coaches sucked by the way, but UF was a good enough program to overcome their weaknesses. Napier is just a level of terrible we haven't seen at UF since the 1950's.

That is just football by the way. There really is no comparison between the states or schools either. One is the premier university in the 3rd largest state. A state that is growing extremely fast and is known as one of the best states for economic strength in the country. The other is in Mississippi.

UF has a huge alumni network and its national prominence brings in a higher volume of annual donations. While both schools have conducted successful multi-year capital campaigns, but UF's campaigns have raised significantly more money. UF's more substantial and consistent fundraising success is reflected in its much larger endowment compared to the University of Mississippi.

Other SEC fans act like UF has not committed to football, but our NIL is extremely competitive even though a number of boosters refuse to give to Billy's program. They want to back a winner and Billy has lied to their faces multiple times at this point. We have facilities that are as good or better than any other school. Our football budget is huge. Napier was given everything he could dream of, but he decided to waste it on hiring buddies from Louisiana Lafayette. It's not a UF problem, its a Billy Napier problem. No program looks good when they have their worst coach in 60 years leading the team.

If replaced, this will be Florida's fifth coach in 13 years. Great program stability.

Hiring Muschamp, McElwain, Napier and even Crazy Dan isn't a recipe for stability.
All of these coaches are out of coaching, G5 level or dead man walking.

Just a wet dream for Gator fans, isn't going to happen. Ask yourself, why would he leave Ole Miss for UF?

This...

Somebody explain to me why UF thinks they are members of the elite of college football?

They're not. Absolutely not.

Look up the history of college football in Gainesville. Out of 120 seasons of college football being played at UF, they're mediocre (at best) except for the 15 seasons that Spurrier and Myer roamed the sidelines. And as great as Spurrier was there, he only won one National Championship.

So, no... Florida is not in the same class as the elites of CFB, contrary to the popular opinion of those in the Sunshine State. Maybe this is why UF is mired in permanent mediocrity. People (IE: coaches) that know football realize that this false self-perception coupled with the pressures to win yesterday make for a toxic culture.

you're missing the point.

being in Florida, whether at Florida, FSU, or even Miami, is a lot easier to recruit due to the ease of travel. a coach can build his entire team, if not most of it, with in state recruits.

you can't quite do that at Ole Miss. you could, but the product on the field would definitely be inferior with mostly Mississippi players. Kiffin currently has to travel to multiple states to get the necessary players to be competitive.

if he's now the family man y'all make him out to be, he could do it just as easily in Gainesville, if not more easily, as he does in Oxford.

The 2005 recruiting mentality is still alive and well at Florida. My guy, these coaches all have private jets, and the star players on Ole Miss get NIL deals that include flights to games for family. They are now all paid players, and with rev share it’s about to really equal out. The old mentality of Florida being great because of geography is outdated. It’s all about money and playing time now.

Recruits ask 2 questions when they go for visits now: how much can you pay me, and what is the position room looking like so I can play immediately. Geography and how good Florida used to be have never been more irrelevant when recruits make a decision than right now.
