After all the BK trashing you did, this is actually hilarious.

Well then why can’t you hire the coaches you want to fill that trophy case? Florida is that girl who used to be hot a long time ago and now she got fat and ugly but still thinks she’s a 10.

Neither school has absurd demand, don't be ridiculous. The issue for both is the absurd schedules, to start.

Auburn is on its way to our 5th straight losing season with negative momentum. How long of a leash should a coach have? Freeze couldn't develop even a game manager at QB and he is a QB guy. An avg SEC qb at Auburn and Auburn is likely an 8-4 team and freeze keeps his job.

UF is in a similar boat. I don't know what's going on with Napier frankly.

But I'll also say this, most of my UF friends were on the "Lagway for Heisman" train to start the season. Lagway sucking is on Napier but not 100% his fault. So I'm not sure what happened there.

South Carolina is that last call you accidentally impregnated while drunk but you did the right thing and stayed with her. Good on you South Carolina fans for being loyal, though.

Hiring the right coach is all about timing.

Not that I would expect a SC fan to understand that. It’s easier to lash out.

You’ll be stuck with Beamer and the next version of Beamer.

Good luck.

Can you elaborate on this? Should Billy not have been fired in year 4 while under .500?
It's not so much that ya'll and Auburn are firing your coaches like it's whack-a-mole, it's that you follow up with ridiculous, ho-hum new hires doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Every time ya'll do that (and it looks like you'll do it again if you are going to hire Eli fricking Drinkwitz), it continues to erode your brand. It's the optics of it. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy: hire, fire, hire even worse candidates, fire, rinse and repeat.

Dan Mullen had a 70% winning percentage and ya'll canned him before the end of his 4th year, then followed up with Billy Napier. Billy. Fricking. Napier. Everyone knew his fate before he ever set foot in Gainesville. It's no wonder these coaches make sure they're financially secure for life before they sign the dotted line for erratic, directionless programs. It's absurd when you take the homer lense off. Sure there were problems with Mullen, but Florida and Auburn continue to dig your holes deeper and it has destroyed the perception of the two programs, with Florida's reputation taking an especially big hit.

At some point your administrations will have to get serious and commit to a qualified candidate, get behind him, and bite the bullet to show you're serious about stability. Right now you're both a circus side show of coaching carousels. I've said from the beginning that Kiffin (nor any other clearcut qualified coach) is going to Florida or Auburn right now. Ya'll don't even know what you want, so how can you articulate what is expected to a qualified candidate? One thing is for sure: if you do get a top notch HC, you're going to pay dearly - as dearly as has ever been paid - to get him.

Auburn is especially screwed because they don't have the pedigree of Florida. Couple that with the AD they have at the helm (they'll eventually run him out on a rail, bookmark it), and they're primed and ready to make yet another abysmal hire who's a dead man walking. Somebody is going to eventually go broke funding it all.

And if LSU doesn't watch it, their reputation is headed into the abyss as well. Optics matter in the long run: You don't fire a coach with a 70+ winning percentage mid-season, your AD, and have no president nor plan, put your governor in charge of handling the PR in a day and age where politics are so abrasive, and follow up hiring Jon Sumrall and not taking a hit to, best case scenario, your reputation as being a serious program. Let him shite the bed and get fired in year 3 with an even worse record as his predecessor, and you're stumbling in the wilderness indefinitely paying more and more for lesser and lesser qualified candidates. It's not that the expectations are totally unreasonable (partly, yes), it's how your (and many others') programs and fanbases are choosing to do something about it: stupidly, and with little foresight.

[quote]You're right that he's not leaving mid season but I'm not sure why that matters.

IWell… there’s a huge difference between your season ending in November and ending in January.

Non-playoff bowl games aren’t keeping a coach in place. A guy like Clark Lea isn’t feeling obligated to stick around for the Gator Bowl. But if you're coaching in the College Football Playoff? Yeah, you’re finishing that run.

That’s the point — the situation matters. Playoff chase vs. lower-tier bowl. Those timelines aren’t the same, and neither is the loyalty/obligation attached.

Make sense now?

Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin remains the favorite, at 45%, to be Florida's coach via @Kalshi, followed by Missouri's Eliah Drinkwitz (22%), Washington's Jedd Fisch (17%) & USF's Alex Golesh (8%)

Good lord… tell me that Stricklin isn’t taking advice and direction from high school coaches about who to hire at FL.

probably not so much "direction and advise" but more about taking their temperature on how a candidate will be received as a recruiter

You know they are still staring at Lane's blinking "..." typing response in their text thread, even if he has been "typing" the response for 2 weeks.
