Why should a city mayor be able to create laws via executive mandate without any legislative oversight

Home rule power is in the Florida Constitution. It's a recognition that the needs of every community are not always going to be the same, there needs to be flexibility.

The governor issued an executive order in 2020 that banned collection of fines and any penalties associated with Covid mandates. Then had a law passed giving him sweeping powers to invalidate local emergency measures earlier this year. He and the legislature have consistently taken action over the past year now to strip authority from local governments and give it to the governor.

Also, I am curious if you thought he should have done more like made masks mandatory for the entire state and all that?

Because you aren't really striking me as the type of person who cares about local authority.

DeSantis would win 2024 in a landslide. He's far smarter than horse hair and doesn't have his baggage.

Yes, I do agree that Florida has the best governor! Give him all your support.

Makes you wonder why he's being attacked so acutely for policies that many other states/governors are also doing. You don't hear about those states or governors.

Because as I said, where I live none of that happened or mattered.

Whether or not your community still has mask guidelines is one thing, but the enforcement capability was stripped by executive action and now state legislation.

Right, but one guy shouldn’t be making that decision alone either. I don’t disagree that every community has different needs but there needs to be a democratic process whenever they want to issue new local laws/ordinances

About the same % in states who imposed draconian lockdowns on their citizens.

Because Desantis trolls Biden almost as much and openly as Trump did and it gets under the media’s skin. Other governors do the same things he does but are quieter about it.

You are obviously blinded by your love for msnbc and Rachel Madow. I wonder who the real idiot is.

They're scared to death of him. He's also a vet that went to Harvard and Yale.

He checks all the boxes.

Like a president or governor, the head of local government has some executive order authority but ordinances and new laws have to be voted on by the commission/council/etc.

When 100% of the people followed it, what more do you want?

The businesses enforced it.

And on top of that, covid has already been researched for like 20 years now, so the data was already in place to prepare a vaccine.
yeah it’s easy to make a vaccine when you make the virus itself in a lab

Too bad there aren't tabulations of the deaths, cases, and hospitalizations by state. Expressed as a per 100k residents rate, and compared to each state's population metrics, such as average age, ethnic mix, obesity %, etc.

90% of people very sick and dying in hospitals right now are unvaccinated.

Australia and Israel have VERY different data. Where is that being reported?

Only 51% of the population has been vaccinated. And I doubt every single one of them are lefties.

You can't be correct.

Says the snowflakes who break their TVs when someone doesn't stand for the national anthem. the founding fathers would either die from embarrassment or laughter if they saw the level of jingoism present today.
