Yeah. To be fair it's no ghetto like Baton Rouge or McFarland in Tuscaloosa
The ghetto is in Alberta.. Go the opposite direction of University Blvd from the stadium.. can't miss it.

Deltaland has the best post thus far.
IMO bulldog bash is a lot of fun. So check that out (I also like the black crows, so I'll be there).
Bars: cotton district is best. BiN 612 is my favorite bar there and favorite in town. Dave's comes in a close second.
Food: STROMBOLIS. Nuff said. Local pizza/calzone place. Owner makes his own homemade pizza dough and its really good. Get the 'stromboli' or 'brooklyn stromboli'. Also Get the cookie dough bites for dessert. Amazing. I can't stress this enough. GO TO STROMBOLIS
If you're still there on Sunday and want to eat, head to West Point (about 25 mins away) and eat at Anthony's. Best food in the area IMO.
Also take tylenol/ibuprofen. Your head will hurt because of the damn cowbells. I seriously don't like them and you'll realize very quickly that you don't either.
All in all, starkville isn't a terrible place as its portrayed here. Its different but not terrible.
One more thing and Its been said, find the Miss State Store (ask a local) and go buy some Edam cheese. Damn good cheese.
I'll be around Friday night and Saturday (wife Is a bulldog) and I'll have on my Ole Miss hat. So if You see me say hotty toddy secrant and I'll buy You a beer

Have it In a cup and you will be fine. If you are not 21 be VERY careful at the bars since they will be swarming with undercover ABC cops. The cotton district is right off of campus and there are 6 bars in the district that are fun. Bin 612 is the largest and most fun of the cotton district bars.
There is downtown also you have zorbas, old Venice and they are fun.
Between the CD and downtown you have the halfway house they have a load of beers on tap and good food.
There is also ricks which usually has $1 on Saturday night but you are going to run into more of a redneck crowd there
Dave's darkhorse which is on the back end of the cotton district is on 182 and is a tavern with no windows it's always really fun.
On Saturday the bars close at 1 am but late night happens all over town.
Cowbells is open until 2 but they are way the frick out in the highlands.
Don't drink and drive they will have roadblocks everywhere
LIQUOR STORES
corkys located on highway 12
182 package store (located in a stip mall on highway 182) there is at texaco at one end of the strip mall.

Nothing wrong with Starkvegas. It is much better than it used to be. Also, if you get bored the Pearl River Casino Resort is not far away.

If you like visiting Top 15/20 type restaurants when you go to new places, TripAdvisor is usually a good resource.
According to the people's take on Starkville, a little french place called Chick Fillet might be your best bet.

I can understand why you, as an A&M fan, don't like Chic-Fil-A. But it's delicious

Seriously man, the responses provide a great indication of what to expect- at least a majority of the responses.

Bulldog Bash is a wild time. I love the pulled pork plate at Lil Dooeys and Kirk Herbstreit always ranks it 1 on his Herbies. All the tailgating will be right by the stadium and LSU always haS a big tailgate by Dorman Hall. The pimp suit wearing guys. State folks are generally nice so it would not be hard to find some folks to tailgate with. However we had some LSU folks we took in last time and one of the guys got hammered and walked in front of the Dawg Walk yelling tiger bait and got his head split open.
All in all Starkville has come a long way in the last 15 years. You should have a good time other than the outcome

Visit one of their famous barn brothels. Chickens are only 5 bucks, but cows will cost you at least a Benjamin.
