With both USCs vacant, we need to use SoCal and South Carolina on this board. Confusing.

The story he linked was from Nov 2013 after they fired Kiffin. Every story was that he was their top target
It seems even more unlikely he would leave now given what we've paid him, what we've built and that things seem to be coming back together but crazier things have happened I guess

The only way Sumlin would go to USC is if there is some kind of tension or problem that we don't know about. Family not happy in B/CS or some disagreement with the AD - something like that. Otherwise, there is no chance that he'd leave at this point.

Why would USC want Sumlin? He makes Miles look like a genius

That's false. They offered Sumlin the job.
USC was in discussions with Sumlin and anyone that followed it knew this. Did he get a formal offer to coach USC? NO. If you consider mutual interest discussions an offer, then yes.

You don't have to believe me but if you think about Orgeron's position at USC... he left because he wasn't named HC. Had USC formally offered Sumlin the HC job, Orgeron would have left USC in mid-November. Remember, Sumlin got his new contract before the end of November with a game or two still to be played.
The timing of a USC offer to Sumlin would have to be before he committed to the new deal with A&M or after Sumlin had committed which would make even less sense.
USC did not formally offer Sumlin. It was only discussions. Not that it matters now. Like I said in my original reply, there WAS MUTUAL INTEREST. This is reason to be concerned now. Not sure how else to say it.
If you believe they offered Sumlin the job and he turned it down prior to the new contract with A&M that is okay with me. We definitely don't have to agree on this.

USCw wants to steel a coach from the flagship school.

Dude... from your OWN link:
Sumlin was the top choice. They took a run at him. A&M made him an offer that he accepted. He wouldn't have accepted the A&M offer if he really wanted to go to USC.

Those who have suggested Texas A&M Coach Kevin Sumlin was USC's top coaching choice may have been right -- but Sumlin is apparently not coming to USC..
A good sign someone is making a run at a coach is if that coach's school suddenly signs him to a multiyear extension just hours before a big game against, say, Missouri.
That happened Saturday when it was reported Sumlin had agreed on a new, six-year contract to stay at Texas A&M.

Pretty much sums up what I said about boosters and stories.
I have yet to see a link where USC says they formally offered Sumlin OR a link where Sumlin says he was offered the job by USC.
Sumlin could have come out and said he had the HC offer from USC but chose to stay at A&M.
I stick to my assertion that there was some mutual interest. Period. Haden wanted Sark. End of story. If Haden had wanted Sumlin as much as he wanted Sark we would have lost Sumlin.
Not sure why this is so hard to believe. Sumlin did NOT turn down an offer.

A lot of this is pr work by the agents. Just like with Saban to Texas, he never talked with them. Jimmy Sexton (his agent) did however. Now these agents work with several coaches so Saban can continue to say he has no interest and be completely truthful, but if he agent wasn't trying to get him the best offer possible, than he is doing a shitty job. Mile's agent has used the Michigan job to get his client a raise with LSU before. No doubt Sumlin's agent did the same thing. For all we know Sumlin will never talk to USC (or USCe) but his agent will have several talks and leak out info to ESPN and other sources to try and get more credibility/money for his client.
A number of fanbases don't know about these coaches until they see their name popping up several times in different opennings.

And I have yet to see a link which USC or Sumlin says there WASN'T a formal offer.
But that wasn't even my initial claim. My claim was that he was their top target. And ALL the links posted so far, including your own, indicate that he was. You initially responded that he WASN'T the top target. It is moving to goal posts to now say that the standard was proof that a formal offer was extended.
You can stick by your assertion, but I'm not sure why it's hard for you to understand why the rest of us would choose to go with the opinions of sports writers like Bruce Feldman.
Do you have any inside info, or is this just your gut speaking?

USC is a clown show on a beach. They're irrelevant and play tittybaby football at 3am and no one watches
