Using the FEI ELS metric. Pretty much the only SoS I consider valid since it's not based on averages.

Strength of schedule ratings represent the number of losses a team two standard deviations above average would expect to have against the schedule of opponents.

Listed in order by overall rank, expected losses to the right.

#4 Alabama - 2.97
#5 Texas - 2.82
#7 Florida - 2.72
#8 Auburn - 2.57
#10 Arkansas - 2.50
#11 South Carolina - 2.42
#12 Kentucky - 2.38
#15 LSU - 2.29
#17 Miss St - 2.23
#20 Missouri - 2.13
#21 Oklahoma - 2.09
#22 Tennessee - 2.05
#23 Georgia - 2.04
#36 Texas A&M -1.70
#39 Vandy - 1.57
#48 Ole Miss - 1.35

Other notables:

#16 Indiana - 2.25
#19 BYU - 2.18
#25 Oregon - 2.03
#25 Ohio St - 2.02
#43 Notre Dame - 1.48
#47 Texas Tech - 1.39
#49 Miami - 1.33
#82 Tulane - 0.56
#116 James Madison - 0.21

Toughest schedule:

#1 Wisconsin - 3.72

It's such a joke that Tulane and JMU are in this. I mean we can make fun of Ole Miss and some of the other playoff teams, but even the ole miss schedule is 6 times more difficult than JMU and more than twice as difficult as Tulane.

Not really, they would have the 9th toughest schedule in the SEC.

Indiana was previously at #33 going into last nights game and Ohio St was #56.

#33 Indiana - 1.50
#56 Ohio St - 1.04

Both gained a ton of strength, and they should since both teams are likely a loss for an "elite" team.

And that's reflected.

Indiana jumped up 0.75 in strength and Ohio St jumped up by 1 loss.

Edit: Actually that was 2 weeks ago, I didn't do a post last week. Still, same logic applies.

If you want averages or other dumb metrics I can't help you. You play tough games, you get rewarded for tough games.

Tell me which is harder, playing #49 and #50 or playing #1 and #130.

That is a season ranking, not a schedule ranking.

Their schedule wasn’t hard, they are just a good team.

Duly noted, SOS makes no diff at all when it comes to getting in the playoffs, it's about W/L record or being Bama.

Edit- or being a DEI program like James Madison or Tulane and being a big fish in a small pond.

The Rebels didn't take Alabama and aTm off our schedule. Sankey and his team in Birmingham did. Take it up with them.

So you think Texas with it's 9-3 record should be in above Alabama with it's 10-3 record?

Supports the decision to put Bama in for going 10-2 before the bonus game.

Yet every team in the playoffs DOES belong?

Nope, but I do think we should be in above the two DEI additions.

Of course now we know the playoffs aren't about putting the best teams in the country head to head so it doesn't matter.

We still have tOSU next year and Michigan the year after, but beyond that we need to schedule weaker P4 programs (the ones that sound good on paper, yet in reality don't match up well with us) as our marquee out of conference game to start the season.

UCLA Bruins? Come on down!
Washington State Cougars? Come on down!
North Carolina? Welcome Bill Belicheck to Austin!
