This is correct, the natural valley was already somewhat shaped out and flat from prior quarrying. I believe it is also one of the main reasons they have never seriously considered "lowering" the field level to make the sightlines better for the front rows or to add more seating along the sides as a lot of other schools have done. It simply isn't feasible to remove that much more rock to gain a few more rows of seats.

Some also use that as an excuse for why we always had difficulty maintaining a natural turf field (it dies they say) - which I think is BS with today's technology.

Great list - I love everything (well until recently) about college football. The history of the buildings it is played in is fascinating to me, along with the traditions and superstitions each school has - it is a very unique aspect that I don't think any other sport has..
