We have a bunch of Nolan Ryan's in here. My fastest ever was 78, but I wasn't a pitcher. I pitched once, and who doesn't like seeing a 72 MPH pitching right down the middle? First pitch I threw was a jack. I got through an inning and a third and was yanked, and never pitched again (I only played two years). My curve was like 64. I wasn't gifted as a pitcher. I know very few people that can top 90; my brother in law could throw about 87.

TILT... Mid 80’s+ fastball is the new “I only bang 9/10’s”.

This. Lots of liars on this board. Either that or the radars were Soviet-era technology. I don't care how many 'experts' are out there selling the notion that anybody can throw 90. It's simply not true. Hustlers been selling dreams for long time.

A high school underclassman that throws a 90 mph fastball is going to get serious D1 attention whether he throws strikes or not. Same for a kid that can run 60 yards in 6.5 seconds or a batter with an exit velocity above 90 mph. Those are the kids that get offers in 9th/10th/11th grade.

P.S. There are a lot of great baseball players in that age range. Not many of them can hit those benchmarks despite working year around.

I pitched in high school led the team in innings my senior year and was second my sophomore year. Got a new coach my junior year who didn't like my mechanics, so he didn't pitch me much. Anyway, 82 was my high. As a 10th grader I probably averaged about 74-76 on my fastball. As a senior probably averaged around 78-79. My 10th grade year I held the AA state champions to 3 runs on 4 hits throwing nothing but 74 MPH fastballs. They were so far out in from or it they were popping everything straight up.

My buddy growing up was a good high school pitcher that could throw mid 90s but he fricked his elbow and arm before leaving high school. They had him throwing curves a lot in high school and pitching a lot of innings. he wasn't good enough to be a D1 prospect but had several JUCOs and small schools looking as a junior.

I never was a pitcher but I have a strong arm and was able to throw around 80 but that was with no coaching.

How do you know you can break 80? The guy at the carnival said so?

I’d bet $5k you couldn’t break 75 & I would give you a month to train. Give me 2.5-1 odds & I would happily drop the qualifier to breaking 70. Darryl Strawberry ran his mouth off with some Mets pitchers & the scout put the gun on him, couldn’t break 75.

I’d guess three or so posts are realistic.. the rest of you clowns are simply embarrassing yourselves.

Lets bet then. Dont run and hide. Set it up. Easiest 5k ive ever made.

81 - It wasn't the speed of course, but I had a lot of natural movement on the ball, threw a lot of junk, and was better than average at locating pitches.

Prolly the reason I was always such a huge Greg Maddox fanatic.

Mid 80s which is the primary reason I didn't play pro ball even tho I didn't really like pitching; I was a natural SS.

I disagree with what was told to you, OP. I played year-round travel ball and gave up all other sports after my junior year in HS to focus solely on baseball. I was primarily an outfielder on the travel squads as that was going to be my position in college (and beyond if I made it that far), but I did pick up some innings in travel ball as well. However, I was 1a or 1b pitching for my HS team. I consistently threw mid to high 80s. I only touched 90s once, during our region championship game, and topped out at 91. I also partially tore my rotator cuff and labrum that game, and those issues eventually cost me my career while I was playing in college. FWIW, I was projected to be drafted after a year or two of college, and I was noted to have + arm strength. Anyone who says that any player with training should be able to hit 90 is full of shite. Played with several guys who played D1 and went on to have decent pro careers (all the way up AAA ball with an occasional call up) that never touched 90.

Yup. Lotta Uncle Rico’s in this thread.

I’d guess a handful have even been gunned by a legitimate source, much less hit 80.

Wild Thing Mitch Williams was topping at 83 during the WS vs Toronto.
