With Auburn football in need of a proven commodity, Nick Saban and Alabama can help reveal a Tigers head coaching candidate against Texas A&M

Every Auburn football fan understands the uncomfortable inevitability surrounding the Tigers’ head coaching position. Bryan Harsin is essentially a dead man walking and at this point, it’s a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ the Boise native will be dismissed in disgrace.

Given the Tigers’ four-touchdown underdog status against the Bulldogs Between the Hedges this Saturday, there isn’t much intrigue surrounding Auburn football’s Week 6 matchup with the defending champions. There is quite the intriguing collision between Alabama and Texas A&M, though, and it could have ramifications regarding the AU head coaching job.

According to Paul Finebaum, if things continue to go as poorly as they’ve been, the boosters in East Central Texas could decide to cut the highly expensive cord.

While the expectations at Texas A&M have not been met, that doesn’t mean Jimbo Fisher can’t coach.

A change of scenery, albeit from one booster-controlled program to another, could be what the doctor ordered for Fisher. Auburn football can most certainly use someone with SEC experience, a victory over Nick Saban under his belt, and a proven recruiting pedigree in the most football-rich state in the nation.

Can Alabama help reveal a head coaching candidate for Auburn? An embarrassing defeat to the Crimson Tide for a Texas A&M team that has struggled offensively certainly moves the needle in that direction.

Yes auburn can afford paying 90+ million for Jimbo. Firing Harsin for 15 million and still paying off Gus’ 20 million

It's baffling to me that people acually believe that Jimbo is going to get fired with a $90 million dollar buyout.

It's baffling to me that people actually think Jimbo is getting fired for going into Tuscaloosa and losing the Alabama.

Most major CFB programs bring in $100-$200 million a year. A&M trends closer to the $200 mark.

There's a reason these coaching contracts are as huge as they are. There's a lot of money on the line. And with huge contracts, come huge buyouts.

It's just a cost of doing business. And CFB is a MASSIVE business right now. A&M may, or may not, end up being the first, but either way $70-$100 million buyouts will be commonplace in the sport within 5 years. If you can't see that, you aren't paying attention.

He is a proven commodity. He has proven to be an 8-4 type coach.

The largest buyout I know of was around $20 million or so.

Jimbo's is over 4x that, the folks who think Jimbo is getting bought out in 2022 or 2023 are completely delusional.

I know I'm talking to Sidewalk here, but giving you the benefit of the doubt that you actually want to have a discussion here...

You seem young. I don't mean that as an insult or a troll. Just an observation.

I remember starting out earlier in my career and working on things with million dollar implications was mind boggling to me. Then it became commonplace and the things with 10's of millions were the big deals, then I worked on a 50+ billion dollar corporate mega-merger. And the lesson I have learned through it all is that the work and processes at all levels are largely the same. The output numbers are simply reflections of the input numbers.

5-10 years ago there was no such thing as a $90 million CFB coaching contract. Because there wasn't enough money in thr game to support it. As a result there was no such thing as a $90 million buyout.

Today there is absolutely enough money flowing in major CFB programs to support $70, $90, $100 million HC contracts. And we see more and more popping up around the country in that range. And as those contract numbers continue to increase, I guarantee you the buyouts will follow suit. When it comes to scale, as the input number goes up, output number goes up. That's just how it works.

Even if we can afford the buyout, it doesn’t change the fact that we allowed ourselves to be strong armed into an idiotic contract.

I don't see that it's worth it to spend that coin on getting rid of Jimbo. He's not going to completely wreck the program, so just give him a few years and see where it goes. I think there is a reasonable chance A&M wins 10 games within the next 2-3 years with the talent amassed, which would be what, the second time in about a quarter century?

Not to mention you'll spent 90m for the opportunity to roll the dice on someone who can get you to a place you haven't been in decades. It's just unlikely and not worth it, at least at this price.
