I was told that was the reality for the majority, but that there was a powerful inner circle that did the dirty work you mentioned under the myth.

A group of rich old men who were used to having their hands in the football program and never being told no. Until Saban came in and cussed them like a dog and threatened to have them disassociated.

They're just big money people. They bought Nick Saban's house in 2013 and continue to pay the property taxes while he and his wife live there just to "make him happy." There's no question who runs the REC since 2007.
