I spent last weekend with one of my best friends out of town that I don't get to see too often these days. He is a hard core Auburn fan.

College educated (at UGA) but raised an Auburn fan. Not just a random dumb Auburn redneck.

We always talk about football, and he said with no hesitation that if Auburn loses to Georgia, Gus is gone.

I said "what if they beat bama and beat everybody else on the schedule"?

He said "If Gus loses to Georgia, he is gone"

He clarified: "The only way Gus stays is if he beats everyone except Bama. But even if they beat Bama, if he loses to anyone besides Bama, he gone"

To the Auburn fans on the board, how do you assess my friend's opinion?

I allowed him several opportunites to restate and clarify his position, and he was very clear and consistent.

Lose to UGA = Gus fired.

Why is this dude your friend?

tbh I'd agree if the game was at home; losing to Vanderbilt or Georgia this year like that would warrant a coach-firing

I don't know who is a bigger idiot: your friend for saying such stupid shite, you for typing such stupid shite, or me for reading such stupid shite.

Guys isn't getting fired this year unless he goes 6-6. Even then he probably can sacrifice an assistant and keep his job one more year.

He's just saying it to you to talk shite about UGA.

Gus is safe through this year unless the bottom drops out and we lose out

Your friend is a fricking retard, and you should probably stay away in case it rubs off.

I feel like if Gus loses to Georgia but beats everyone else then he should be fired. I don't care if he beat bama. This is not the year to lose to them. I do not see a 100% guarantee SEC game outside of maybe Vandy though.

How does that work?

Logic would say he would be a UGA fan just like Texas students are Texas fans.

The Auburn/Aggie fans come about after being denied acceptance into the #1 State school and enacting fall back plans.

So I guess he's a very specific kind of dumb Auburn redneck?

I wouldn't go that far but if he loses to VU and/or UGA any upward trend would cease.

I expect him to be back because of the buyout regardless of who he loses to. It's like 9 million for him and another 2 or 3 for his assistants.
