You tell aggie chad that we he figures out that recruiting to arkansas is like pushing a large bolder up an endless hill, he's welcome to come home to work with the QB guru as our new OC.

He would likely still be here if that were true.

Fields probably would have ended up at Florida because Richt would have been recruiting him at TE. Cade Mays (5-star OT) wouldn't be at UGA because Richt didn't believe that going head-to-head with major programs for lineman was worthwile since a great RB can make mediocre OL look good (I am being dead serious here). Brenton Cox, probably OSU or Bama bound. James Cook likely still a Nole.

We'de have put together a class in the 4-8 range and we'd have been happy about it. We wouldn't have pulled top out-of-state talent like Mays or Campbell or Luke Ford, though Zamir White always wanted to play at UGA, so he would have likely been in this class anyway.

Maybe. What's more impressive is what will Kirby do with these higher ranked classes.

Regardless of in-state talent, Kirby and crew putting in work.

I know. I’m devastated, and deeply concerned by our failures evident in yesterday’s class. Hoping we can do better in Coach Smart’s 3rd year.

He's really not off base too much.

Georgia is a talent rich State in the South which is a hot bed for studs.

Both are great coaches, obv Kirby has been impressive, but what says Richt wouldn't have locked down a similar class with same results if still at Georgia?

Nothing but 12 or so years of contradictory history. Other than that....

Because he never did.Never signed a #1 class or ever had back to back classes like '17 and '18.

Bama,AU,and Clemson and were all cherry picking from the state during the CMR years, especially the last half of his career.

#1 and 15* player from N.C.
#1 TN
#1 ILL
#3 from SC
# 4, 8, 30, 46 from Florida
#7 from Oklahoma*
#23 from Texas
Along with the 2/3/4/5//9/12/16/18/23/28/34/36 from GA

Bonus #5 Juco in America
*denotes 3 star player all others are 4/5 star

Our out of state class is better than any class you’ve ever signed.

Kirby has now signed two classes more highly rated than any of Richt's. Nothing in Richt's 15 years at Georgia indicates he could sign a class like the one Kirby signed this year.

Beyond just their respective recruiting abilities, there have been huge changes at UGA that happened simultaneously with the hiring of Smart that would not have happened without that catalyst.

The state of Missouri had it's best in state class perhaps ever. Mizzou brought the players in, flowered them with attention, won enough games to show the program is viable and....we got 1 out of the top 10 kids in state.

Just because they are in your backyard doesn't mean you can snag them. This isn't the 70s. Kids live in a global world now with technology so a coach that lives 1000 miles away has the ability to blow up the kid 100 miles away from your school just as easy as you, but NOW they have the advantage even of having the "WOW, you came 1000 miles to see me just as much as the local school!" factor.

Mark Richt signed 21 5 star players in 15 years.
Kirby has signed 13 5 star players in 3 years.
